Heavy Equipment Operator - Parks Maintenance

Operates a variety of heavy equipment used in construction and maintenance in the North Little Rock park system, performing the following duties.

Include the following. The list of essential functions is not exhaustive and may be supplemented as necessary. Other duties may be assigned. Regular and predictable attendance and punctuality are essential functions of this position.

Operates a bulldozer to grade, clear and/or landscape land in the parks system.

Operates a backhoe to dig ditches, trenches, or holes for construction and to clean and maintain ditches, streams, and culverts.

Operates a grader (or motor patrol) daily to grade infields in the parks ball fields, to grade gravel roads and parking lots, and to keep gravel pulled to edges of paved roadways.

Operates a front loader, forklift, and/or Ditch-witch daily for a variety of construction and maintenance projects.

Operates an augur as needed to set poles, install lights or maintain lights in park ball fields and other park properties.

Operates a roller, boom truck, bucket truck, pole truck, tractor/tiller, tractor with box blades, and chainsaw frequently in a variety of construction and maintenance projects.

Operates a gradall or linkbelt excavator, tracked front loader, and/or street sweeper occasionally in a variety of construction and maintenance projects.

Could be required to operate an asphalt paver, salt/sand spreader/flush truck, vacall, poison spray rig, bush hog, rough cut mower, out front mower, tractor/bush hog, riding mower, top dresser, jackhammer, trimmer, compactor and/or edger in a variety of construction and maintenance projects.

Drives a one or two ton truck and a dump truck, a tractor/trailer rig to haul equipment, and a water truck occasionally.

Performs preventative maintenance checks on all equipment used.To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skills, and abilities required. No formal education required. Two years of directly related experience operating heavy equipment.

The employee must have a Class A Commercial Driver's license, or the ability to obtain one within 6 months from the date of hire, and a safe driving record.

The complexity, guidelines, supervisory controls, and supervision responsibilities described below are representative of this position.

SUPERVISORY CONTROLS:

The supervisor makes assignments by defining objectives, priorities, and deadlines; and assists employee with unusual situations that do not have clear precedents. The employee plans and carries out the successive steps and handles problems and deviations in the work assignment in accordance with instructions, policies, previous training, or accepted practices in the occupation. Completed work is usually evaluated for technical soundness, appropriateness, and conformity to policy and requirements. The methods used in arriving at the end results are not usually reviewed in detail.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY:

None.

COMPLEXITY:

The work consists of duties that involve related steps, processes, or methods; the decision regarding what needs to be done involves various choices requiring the employee to recognize the existence of and differences among a few easily recognizable situations; actions to be taken or responses to be made differ in such things as the source of information, the kind of transactions or entries, or other differences of a factual nature.

GUIDELINES:

Guidelines are available, but are not completely applicable to the work or have gaps in specificity; the employee uses judgment in interpreting and adapting guidelines; the employee analyzes results and recommends changes.
