Overview of the Role:
This position requires a high skill level in many different technical areas, but focuses primarily on constructing, maintaining, and testing of electrical systems and components, and skillfully troubleshooting and repairing electrical/electronic failures of our manufacturing equipment. This person is regularly a part of manufacturing and facilities related teams, both as a participant and occasionally as a facilitator/leader. As such, the expectation is that an individual in this position will: recommend changes and improvements to new and existing manufacturing processes; take a leadership role in ensuring that a safe and compliant workplace environment is maintained; provide input to ensure that converged decisions/solutions will lead to optimized manufacturing processes; take ownership for maximizing uptime in Woodstreams manufacturing processes. Success in this position will be dependent on the positive manner in which the job is performed, the positive manner in which communication is maintained with others in the organization, and the achievement of individual and shared goals.
Essential Functions & Responsibilities:
+ Diagnoses and implements permanent corrective actions to electrical failures of equipment.
+ Ensures that all production and facility related equipment is maintained in a state of electrical readiness to respond to customer demand based on scheduling requirements.
+ knowledgeable of all equipment and test equipment used to repair electrical and electronic systems.
+ Investigates faulty electrical operation and makes the necessary repairs in a timely manner.
+ Troubleshoots production equipment and/or facilities electrical malfunctions in an accurate and timely manner. Restores such equipment to a state of readiness as quickly and as efficiently as possible.
+ Disassembles, diagnoses and determines the source and/or the extent of electrical trouble.
+ Performs a variety of tests on electronic components to determine functioning level and capacity.
+ Repairs or replaces defective parts, components and/or wiring.
+ Reassembles, tests and calibrates.
+ Installs properly sized electrical services for new and relocated manufacturing equipment in a safe and compliant manner.
+ Plans, layouts, constructs, modifies, repairs, and installs new or existing electrical or electronic components, instruments, or equipment.
+ Maintains a reasonable inventory of commonly required, relatively low cost, electrical parts to facilitate common electrical repairs.
+ Maintains neat and orderly work areas, wherever duties are performed.
+ Maintains a current working knowledge of Electrical Codes and Regulations, as they apply to Woodstreams facility and manufacturing equipment.
+ Performs all tasks required to maintain the electrical needs of the Woodstream facility. This includes everything from changing light bulbs and repairing wiring circuits, to sizing and diagnosing electrical service feeds, to designing and installing machine control logic and working with PLC programs.
+ Builds simple systems from instructions and directions; makes modifications and recommendations to systems.
+ Assists others in determining more general technical needs and upgrades for all new and existing plant equipment.
+ Skilled in interpreting electrical schematics and translating that knowledge into physical circuitry.
+ Works in a safe manner and insures the safety of others by sharing safety knowledge and practices.
+ Experienced in application of PLCs to control machine operations, and PLC ladder logic programming.
+ Experienced in Windows based PC application programs, including e-mail (MS Outlook), word processing (MS Word), spreadsheet (MS Excel), etc.
+ Regular attendance and punctuality required
Other Functions:
+ Performs other duties as assigned
Successful Candidate Profile:
+ High school diploma / GED required.
+ Additional training/education, up to and including a 2-year associates degree in a technical discipline is desirable.
+ A thorough understanding of basic math skills is required.
+ Proficiency/expertise with electrical/electronic measurement tools is required.
+ Familiarity with basic machine tools is desirable.
+ The ability to read and interpret electrical schematics and engineering drawings is essential.
+ Previous industrial electrical/electronic experience in a manufacturing environment is highly desirable.
+ Experience designing and building electrical circuits and controls.
+ Self-motivated. Able to work effectively with little direct supervision.
+ Ability to keep several projects moving forward at the same time.
+ Ability to work with and receive direction from several different sources.
+ Demonstrated effective problem-solving skills.
+ Ability to provide effective input to annual productivity initiatives, throughout the plant.
+ Initiative to proactively pursue changes in the workplace that provide a competitive advantage.
+ Excellent communication skills.
+ Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a union-based work environment.
+ Proficiency in verbal and written communication
+ Ability to pass the aptitude test.
Test Content:
+ Design and create a PLC ladder logic program using RS Logix software
+ Design and create a program using AND, OR, NOT, NAND, NOR, and Memory logic elements
+ Design and create a program that is stopped using a cycle count
+ Download a PLC program from a computer to a PLC using ethernet or USB connections
+ Design and connect a control circuit that uses relays to energize 2 solenoid valves
+ Design and connect an event sequencing circuit that utilizes 4 limit switches
+ Design and connect a continuous cycle, synchronized cylinder circuit that operates 2 pneumatic cylinders
