The purpose of this position is to conduct inspections, ensure compliance with applicable regulations, respond to public concerns, and manage or assist with contract administration. The Construction Coordinator I supports various City projects by ensuring adherence to standards, assisting in planning efforts, and coordinating with contractors and other stakeholders.
Construction Coordinators may be assigned to one of three divisions: Environmental Compliance, Facilities, or Planning & Design. Duties will vary based on division assignment and may include some or all of the responsibilities listed below
DUTIES:Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
Construction & Compliance Inspections:
Conducts inspections to ensure compliance with City codes, permits, and plans related to streets, drainage, erosion control, illicit discharge, concrete installation, traffic management, and sidewalks.
Monitors project sites for potential hazards and ensures public safety.
Assists in the review of engineering and architectural plans, as well as project specifications.
Project & Contract Administration:
Prepares cost estimates and bid documents for minor City projects.
Assists with bid reviews and contractor compliance with project specifications.
Inspects work sites to verify work completion and adherence to approved plans.
Assists in reviewing invoices and tracking project budgets and timelines.
Project Oversight & Support:
Manages or assists with minor capital improvement projects, including contracts, schedules and budgets.
Assist with large-scale Capital Improvement Projects (CIP) that involve grant funding and coordination with external agencies.
Assists in coordinating interdepartmental projects and provides technical guidance.
Assists in identifying and addressing deficiencies related to accessibility, safety, and environmental compliance.
Public & Interagency Coordination:
Investigates and resolves citizen concerns regarding City projects, facilities, construction-related issues, flooding, drainage, traffic, and environmental matters.
Assist various City agencies and departments with project coordination and oversight.
Reporting & Data Management:
Gathers and maintains project data for reports and GIS records.
Supports administrative tasks, including utilizing software, reviewing deeds and plats, and maintaining project documentation.
Survey & Field Support:
Assists the City Surveyor in conducting surveys as needed.
DIVISION-SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES
Planning & Design Division:
Assist with Issuance, management, and inspection of street cut permits to ensure compliance with City ordinances, proper restoration of public rights-of-way, and accurate tracking within permit management systems.
Conduct Right-of-Way inspections to include walking sidewalk to identify gaps in the pedestrian network, ADA non-compliance issues, and tripping hazards.
Enters inspection data into tracking software.
Assists in conducting traffic volume studies, vehicle counts, and speed analysis to support roadway planning, safety assessments, and infrastructure improvements.
Environmental Compliance Division:
Supports Municipal Separate Storm Sewer System (MS4) permit compliance, including:
Conducting site inspections of facilities, infrastructure, and natural features.
Collecting water samples and preparing environmental reports.
Participating in public education efforts regarding environmental regulations.
Assists with landfill management efforts, including:
Sampling and monitoring environmental impacts.
Managing leachate disposal and landfill maintenance.
Facilities Division:
Assists the Facilities Manager in managing projects, including renovations and new construction.
Conducts facility inspections and minor repairs as needed.
Performs other related duties as required by the applicable Division.
REQUIREMENTS: An Associate degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, Environmental Science, Industrial Science, Architecture, or a related field is required, along with a minimum of two years of relevant experience in construction, project management, facilities management, or a related field. An equivalent combination of education, training, and experience may be considered. The candidate should have a basic understanding of construction techniques related to site development, roads, drainage, and facilities management, as well as knowledge of project cost estimating and contract administration. Experience with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) is required, and familiarity with AutoCAD, GIS, or other project-related software is preferred. The position requires strong analytical and problem-solving skills, as well as the ability to interpret and apply construction plans, specifications, and codes. Effective communication and collaboration skills are essential for working with contractors, the public and interdepartmental teams. A valid driver's license is required.
SALARY: Pary Grade G9; $63,245/annually, $30.40/hourly plus a full benefit package.
WORK HOURS: 7:30 a.m. - 4:30 p.m.; Monday - Friday, with occasional overtime expected.
