To help facilitate our expanding business, RMS Energy is currently seeking a Senior Electrical Design Engineer to join our dynamic and fast-growing team. Our Senior Electrical Design Engineer provides oversight and technical expertise in areas such as electrical power system design, applications, power system protection and controls, power system studies, power quality analysis, installation, startup, maintenance, and repair.

Preferred Locations: Tulsa, Dallas, Wisconsin, or nearby states.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide engineering design and analysis for electrical power systems.
  • Create written specifications for electrical and substation equipment such as motor control centers, switchboards, switchgear, transformers, and circuit breakers.
  • Perform short-circuit, coordination, and arc flash hazard analysis.
  • Generate drawing packages and installation plans for electrical and substation equipment upgrades including protective relay replacements.
  • Provide design of control circuits for circuit breakers, transformers, and other substation equipment.
  • Develop relay settings for both electromechanical and modern electronic relays.
  • Provide review of existing customer power systems and provide recommendations for improvement, upgrade, and/or expansion.
  • Analyze power quality data and event capture data to determine cause of customer issue and provide recommendations for mitigation.
  • Travel to jobsite as needed to meet with customers and collect data necessary for completion of design.
  • Travel to jobsite as needed to direct and support installation and commissioning activities.
  • Provide technical expertise to field services teams, occasionally assisting field services teams in the field.
  • Must understand electrical system hazards and be able and willing to work safely around electrical equipment.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • 5+ years of hands-on experience in electrical power system design, analysis, and field support, including specifying substation equipment, performing power studies (short-circuit, coordination, arc flash), developing relay settings, creating installation packages, and supporting commissioning activities.
  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution in electrical engineering, a related field, or additional years of experience in a related field.
  • Licensure and Certifications: NETA 2, 3, or 4; FE/EIT; PE License preferred.
  • Extensive knowledge of electrical systems, wiring, and all necessary equipment.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel and Outlook).
  • Experience with AutoCAD, SKM PowerTools, ETAP, EasyPower, and/or other electrical modeling tools.
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, and management skills with the ability to engage effectively with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Manages time efficiently with the ability to work and prioritize multiple projects with competing deadlines.

  • Ability to work remotely with minimal supervision
  • Able to travel up to 15%-20% throughout the continental US.
  • Valid and current driver's license with clean driving record.
  • Must be able to pass a pre-employment drug screening and criminal background check, ensuring compliance with organizational standards and policies.

Working Conditions:

This job requires the ability to work extended hours, including evenings, nights, and weekends, as needed. Work may be conducted outdoors in all weather conditions, near low-, medium-, and high-voltage equipment and heavy machinery, in areas with elevations in excess of 100 feet, and confined spaces adhering to strict safety protocols. Exposure to loud noises from machinery is common, necessitating the use of personal protective equipment (PPE). This job involves risk of electrical shock. This job requires frequent travel between RMS facilities and customer sites. This role also requires prolonged periods of sitting, working at a computer, and performing tasks that demand visual acuity for reading and typing.

Physical Requirements:

Physical requirements include the ability to occasionally lift and carry office supplies weighing up to 20 pounds, the capability to move within the office to access files, office machinery, and meeting rooms, and fine motor skills for keyboard use. Proficiency in speaking, hearing, reading, and typing in English is essential for effective communication and documentation. The position demands physical mobility to navigate uneven surfaces. Good vision, including color vision and depth perception, and the ability to hear alarms and communications in noisy environments are essential.
