Qualifying Requirements:
Your City of Pittsburgh application will be reviewed, and your work experience and education/training will be evaluated to determine if you meet the qualifying eligibility requirements listed below for this position. You will be sent an eligibility letter regarding your eligible/ineligible status.
- WORK EXPERIENCE: The application must clearly show one (1) year of full-time experience performing laborer work with the City of Pittsburgh, AND at least one (1) year performing skilled laborer work (plumbing, painting, performing electrical work, bricklaying, cement finishing, HVAC maintenance/repair, iron working, glazing, assisting a Stationary Engineer, etc.). (Less than full-time experience will be calculated on a pro-rated basis.)
- EDUCATION/TRAINING: None required for this position.
- EQUIVALENCY: None permitted for this position. Therefore, no education/training and/or work experience may be substituted toward the qualifying requirements listed above.

You must pass the written and/or performance examination(s) in order to have your name placed on the official Civil Service eligibility list for this position. - Assists craftsperson in performing a variety of skilled duties; performs tasks in craft areas at a moderately skilled level (e.g., bricklaying, cement finishing, plumbing, carpentry, horticultural pruning, etc.).
- Prepares and mixes proper materials at job sites.
- Performs work in accordance with established City and departmental safety rules, regulations, policies and procedures.
- Orders correct amount of materials necessary to complete assigned job.
- Arranges for unused materials to be returned, stored or disposed of in a proper manner.
- May operate a variety of hand, power and mechanized tools (e.g., saws, drills, power pruner, air/hydraulic operated).
- Performs activities and functions of related lower level personnel as assigned or required.
- Performs such other related tasks and duties that are assigned or required.
