The Department of Environmental Services (ENV) is hiring two (2) Refuse Facilitates Maintenance Mechanics . These positions are responsible for performing highly skilled work in the installation, overhaul, repair, inspection, testing and adjustment of a variety of equipment installed in the transfer stations, landfills and refuse convenience centers.Duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Maintain and operate a motor vehicle to transport themselves and equipment to various transfer stations, convenience centers and other various Refuse sites to install, overhaul, repair, inspect, test and adjust a variety of parts and equipment, including: crane grapples, jib booms, rotating swivel bases, operator cabs, compactor base plates, etc.
- Maintain and operate a motor vehicle to transport themselves to various transfer stations, convenience centers and other various Refuse sites to conduct preventive maintenance including daily greasing, checking/changing oil, replacing hydraulic fitters, packing, packing heads, replacing defective hydraulic hoses, retouring bolts and painting corroded equipment.
- Repair compactor and crane structural steel linings and beams. Fabricate and install steel steps, platforms, frames for equipment. Redesign, fabricate, and install new steel members for equipment.
- Maintain and operate a motor vehicle to construct and repair buildings and other structures.
- Performing other duties and responsibilities of the position.

TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENT : Experience and/or training of sufficient scope and quality to competently perform the journey level skills and duties of this position. Such experience must have demonstrated knowledge of tools, materials, and practices used in the maintenance and repair of mechanical equipment such as pumps, fans, cranes, gasoline engines, conveyor systems; knowledge of machine shop tools, equipment, and materials; knowledge of tools, equipment, and materials used in building maintenance; the ability to use hand tools and operate shop machinery in repairing and maintaining mechanical equipment; the ability to use tools and equipment used in maintaining buildings; and the ability to diagnose defects in mechanical equipment and make repairs independently. LICENSE/CERTIFICATE REQUIREMENT :
- Valid appropriate driver's license (automobile/Type 3), prior to appointment.
- Possession of a current Certificate of Fitness for Crane and Hoist Operator, prior to completion of probation.
The above licenses and certificates must be obtained by the time indicated and maintained on a current basis thereafter as a condition of employment.
