Position Summary
This is skilled trades work mainly performing preventive maintenance work on electrical systems and devices and related fields such as air conditioning and heating systems.
OTHER REQUIREMENTS OF THE POSITION
Knowledge of the installation, maintenance, and repair of electrical systems.
Skill in the installation, maintenance, and repair of electrical systems.
Ability to install, maintain and repair electrical systems.
Ability to use a multimeter to test wires for proper voltage and continuity, a ground fault detector to locate wire failures and a megmeter.
Ability to use hand tools and power tools and equipment properly.
Ability to read and clearly understand blueprints.
Ability to plan, organize and coordinate work assignments.
Ability to carry, erect, climb, and maneuver on ladders and/or scaffolds; work in tight and awkward spaces; work off of roofs, cat walks and other elevated areas.
Ability to carry or otherwise move loads of 50 pounds or more (pipe, wire, toolboxes, etc.).
Ability to understand and apply University rules, regulations, policies and procedures.
Ability to work outdoors in all types of weather and within extreme temperature ranges.
Visual ability, corrected, to observe people and/or vehicles moving through the work area in order to redirect work or equipment to avoid injuries to the people or damage to the vehicles.
Ability to communicate information effectively, in English, both verbally and in writing.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others.
Additional Position Information
LSU Health New Orleans Division of Facility Services is seeking highly skilled applicants for the position of Electrician. The person applying for this position should possess two years of experience in the Electrical trades (such as Electrician's helper).
The starting rate is $19.67 per hour for this title with an additional $1 Longevity pay. Rate of Pay may be adjusted based on applicant's' qualifications.
Duties and responsibilities include but not limited to:
performs preventive maintenance tasks on pumps, motors, control systems, electrical panels, electrical circuits, emergency power systems including automatic transfer switches, automatic doors and other electrical equipment and component
installs, maintains, alters, and repairs electrical wiring (underground and above ground), conduit (underground, exterior, and interior), external light fixtures and poles (parking lot, sidewalk, and building), interior light fixtures, power appliances, light machinery, electrical controls (switches, breakers, fuses, and panel boxes), transformers, motor starters, related switchgear and controls, outlets and all other related electrical circuits and equipment which also includes in-house renovations
performs electrical-related demolition and construction work on minor projects as assigned throughout the entire campus
possesses the ability to properly and safely operate the following equipment: manlift, pipe threading machine, drill press, and other equipment used in daily tasks
takes immediate action to personally stop unsafe acts if delay to inform supervisor may allow accident to occur
assists other trades as needed
