About being our CAD Designer

In this hybrid role, our CAD Designer serves as the first point of contact for CAD users, working both independently and with a team. Our ideal candidate will bring their collaboration and communication skills, along with their high-quality drafting practices and civil design expertise, to efficiently assist with project work and support the team. The focus in this position will be transportation design, utilities, drainage, and survey mapping, and will involve working with a variety of design software such as CIVIL 3D and AutoCAD.

Responsibility Highlights for our CAD Designer

  • Develop, maintain, and organize comprehensive CAD drawings and plan sets throughout the project lifecycle using Sheet Set Manager, ensuring compliance with Psomas' CAD standards and client specifications.
  • Support the design team in creating and refining civil 3D models, including surface modeling, corridor design, utility networks (storm, sanitary, and water), and detailed grading-under guidance from the project engineer or designer of record.
  • Perform QA/QC on drawing packages to ensure accuracy, consistency, and adherence to Psomas' CAD standards and the expectations of the project manager or discipline lead.
  • Collaborate closely with civil engineers and project designers on plan production across disciplines, mentoring junior CAD staff and reinforcing best practices in 2D/3D civil design workflows.
  • Champion CAD standards across projects and offices (approx. 10% of the time), helping to implement and refine corporate CAD templates, styles, and protocols in alignment with evolving software and industry practices.
  • Operate independently as a proactive team member-troubleshooting issues, resolving CAD-related challenges, and ensuring deliverables are completed efficiently and to a high standard.

Minimum Qualifications to be our CAD Designer

  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • 5+ Years of AutoCAD and Autodesk vertical applications (e.g., Civil 3D, Map, Raster Design) relevant to civil engineering and surveying.
  • A comprehensive understanding of the design process in the civil engineering industry, including areas such as transportation, utilities, natural resources, and land development.

Preferred Qualifications for our CAD Designer

  • Advanced knowledge of Civil 3D and/or Civil 3D Certification
  • 5+ Years of Progressive Civil and/or Utilities Design Experience
  • Experience with MicroStation
