McCarthy is seeking a skilled and experienced Steel Estimator to manage the estimating process for structural steel projects, including detailed quantity take-offs and budget preparation through various design phases. This role requires a detail-oriented professional with a proven ability to handle complex estimating tasks, ensuring accuracy, efficiency, and alignment with project goals. The ideal candidate will play a critical role in delivering precise cost estimates that drive informed decision-making and contribute to overall project success.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform detailed quantity take-offs for structural steel projects.
  • Assist in developing conceptual budgets and estimates through the SD and CD phases of the design.
  • Utilize Tekla PowerFab for estimating and take-off processes.
  • Collaborate with project managers, engineers, and architects to ensure accurate and efficient estimating.
  • Provide cost analysis and value engineering recommendations to optimize project budgets.
  • Prepare and present detailed cost estimates and bid proposals.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of the industry trends and material costs.
  • Conducts reviews of milestone documents for the development and pricing of value alternative opportunities.
  • Actively participates in the internal estimate review process.
  • After the bid, collects and organizes all bid information for future reference.
  • Aids field operations with change order pricing if needed.
Qualifications
  • Bachelors degree in Construction Management, Engineering or related major preferred
  • 5+ years of experience in steel estimating.
  • Proficient in Tekla PowerFab for estimating and quantity take-offs.
  • Ability to read and interpret drawings and specifications required
  • Must demonstrate behaviors consistent with McCarthy core values while maintaining a "value added" approach to estimating.
  • Strong math and analytical skills with attention to detail required.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills required.
  • General knowledge of construction principles and processes, as well as negotiated/hard bids and GMP processes preferred.
