We have an immediate opening for an experienced Design Director to join our Civic Studio. What you'll be doing:
- Lead multiple teams in the creation and management of design and detailing of projects ranging from small to large
- Work closely with junior staff to review their work, project management and support their career development
- Mentor and support atmosphere of staff QC-ing their own work for code, design, technical, permit and constructability
- Collaborate with Principal in Charge and teams to develop project designs that are innovative while responsible and achieve client goals
- Work well with existing team dynamics and leadership
- Serve as key point of contact for clients on larger projects while mentoring the point of contact on smaller to medium projects
- Develop proposals, fees, and participate in interviews to win projects
- Contribute to staff assignment to projects and monitor their progress
- Coordinate with consultants and in house engineers
- Employee will participate in all phases of project design and construction
- Limited travel is anticipated
Here's what you'll need:
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Architecture from an NAAB accredited institution
- 15+ years of professional architecture experience with concentration in design
- Professional architecture licensure (Virginia preferred)
- Experience leading and mentoring junior staff
- Knowledge/understanding of Revit, SketchUp
- Experience in selection and specification of architecture products and systems
- Ability to convey ideas and design through sketches and presentations
- Communication skills and solid storytelling experience
