Traveling Project Engineer

Key Responsibilities:

  • Complete engineering projects by organizing and controlling project elements from start to finish.
  • Develop clear project objectives by reviewing proposals, plans, and consulting with stakeholders and management.
  • Determine project responsibilities by:
  • Identifying project phases and deliverables.
  • Assigning personnel to tasks.
  • Evaluating bids from subcontractors and vendors.
  • Review product design, customer requirements, and performance standards to define project specifications.
  • Prepare technical studies and cost estimates.
  • Confirm product performance through design reviews, analysis, and field testing.
  • Establish and maintain project schedules by calculating time requirements and sequencing activities.
  • Monitor and maintain schedule progress by coordinating tasks and resolving field-level issues.
  • Control project execution by reviewing and adjusting designs, specifications, and work plans.
  • Manage project costs by approving expenditures and overseeing contractor performance and compliance.
  • Prepare regular project status reports with data analysis and actionable recommendations.
  • Enforce site safety and cleanliness in compliance with company procedures and industry regulations.
  • Maintain accurate digital project records and backups using internal software and database tools.
  • Ensure compliance with federal and state regulations, maintaining the company's high-quality standards.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams (project executives, project managers, general superintendents, and field supervisors) for smooth execution and knowledge transfer.
  • Contribute to broader company goals by supporting team initiatives and project success metrics.

Education & Experience Requirements:

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Civil Engineering, Mechanical/Electrical Engineering, Construction Management, or a related discipline (required)
  • 2-5+ years of utility-scale solar, renewables, or power generation project experience
  • Spanish-speaking ability is a plus
  • Strong proficiency in MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook)
  • Experience with scheduling tools like Primavera P6 or Microsoft Project
  • OSHA 10/30 certification preferred
  • Valid U.S. driver's license and willingness to travel up to 100% to project locations

Qualifications / Skills:

  • Requirements analysis and specification development
  • Strong design and CAD/CAM circuit design skills
  • Project and construction management expertise
  • Knowledge of construction means and methods, especially in solar or renewable energy
  • Ability to drive process improvement and ensure technical compliance
  • Strong documentation, reporting, and communication skills
  • Familiarity with site safety protocols and OSHA regulations
  • Technical understanding of electrical/mechanical systems used in solar construction
  • Supervision of subcontractors and field staff in active project environments
  • Proficiency in CAD, AutoCAD, and project design tools
