Position Summary

The Electrical Estimator is responsible for leading the estimation and execution of large commercial electrical construction projects, ensuring code compliance and accurate cost analysis. This position collaborates closely with designers, subcontractors, and stakeholders to translate project requirements into competitive bids and effectively manage awarded projects through completion. A deep understanding of the Florida electrical code is essential.

Position Responsibilities

  • Project Coordination & Planning
  • Collaborate with design teams to interpret electrical needs and define project scopes, objectives, and deliverables.
  • Develop detailed cost estimates, timelines, and resource plans for commercial electrical work.
  • Attend pre-bid meetings and conduct site visits to evaluate project conditions and gather key information.
  • Maintain estimating tools, templates, and cost databases for project planning efficiency.

Execution & MonitoringManage the transition from estimation to execution, coordinating with project managers, contractors, and field teams.Oversee day-to-day construction activities, contractor performance, and progress toward financial and schedule goals.Monitor changes in scope and project risks, issuing and managing change orders as needed.Ensure all work complies with applicable codes, especially the Florida electrical code, and industry standards.

Documentation & ReportingAnalyze design documentation, drawings, and specifications to ensure scope clarity and alignment.Prepare bid proposals, budgets, risk assessments, and cost breakdowns.Track project performance metrics and prepare reports on financials, schedules, and subcontractor progress.Document meetings, site observations, QA/QC inspections, and project updates.

Stakeholder EngagementServe as a technical liaison between clients, designers, contractors, and PMA teams.Solicit and evaluate bids from subcontractors and suppliers; lead pricing negotiations.Coordinate third-party testing, permit processes, and inspections.Represent PMA in client and stakeholder meetings to communicate progress and resolve issues.

Learning & DevelopmentMentor and guide junior staff, promoting a culture of knowledge-sharing and technical growth.Contribute to the development of PMA estimating and execution standards.Monitor market trends and material pricing to ensure accuracy and competitiveness.Other duties as assigned.

Position Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering, construction management, or a related field preferred.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in electrical estimating and/or project management for commercial construction.
  • Deep knowledge of Florida electrical codes, permitting, and inspection requirements.
  • Ability to read and interpret drawings, schematics, and technical specifications.
  • Proficiency in estimating software (e.g., Accubid, McCormick) and project management tools (e.g., Excel, MS Project, Bluebeam).
  • Strong analytical, communication, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • An equivalent combination of education, experience, and training that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities will be considered in lieu of stated minimum qualifications.

Additional Requirements

Physical: Standing or sitting for long periods; must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times and spend extended hours in front of a computer screen.

Cognitive: Problem-solving, written, and verbal communication skills; computer and software skills; and ability to read and interpret text online or in printed form.
