: Position is responsible for operation of Heavy Landfill Equipment in maintenance, repair, and construction of the Landfill.

**This position has been classified as a safety sensitive position and is subject to our drug testing policy to include pre-employment, random, reasonable suspicion and post-accident for the following prohibited substances: marijuana, amphetamines, opioids, phencyclidine (PCP), and cocaine, as well as any drug not approved for medical use by the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration or the U.S. Food and Drug Administration.**

- Operates all heavy equipment on a daily basis.

- Services, cleans and makes minor repairs to equipment according to manufacturers specifications and established procedures.

- Maintains records of preventive maintenance, service performed and daily operations.

- Trains new operators in the proper, safe and efficient operations of all heavy equipment.

- May perform all of the duties assigned to lower level operators.

- Direct customers to dumping area the monitor use by citizens.

- May be required to work nights, weekends and holidays.

- Must know and follow procedures regarding hazardous wastes which may be brought into landfill.

- Other duties as required for the daily operations of Landfill.

: Minimum Qualifications

- No specific educational requirement.

- Requires three-year experience in the operation and maintenance of heavy equipment.

Licenses and Certificates

- Valid New Mexico Commercial Driver's License with appropriate endorsements, or be able to obtain in 6 months.

- Landfill Operator Certificate-Preferred, (or able to obtain within 6 months)

- HAZWHOPER Certification Preferred

Knowledge Skills and Abilities:

Knowledge of:

- Department rules and regulations and contingency plans.

Skills in:

- Safe operation of heavy equipment such as graders, loaders, dozers, packers, compactors, water wagon, computer, and printer.

Ability to:

- Functions with minimal supervision; understand and follow basic safety precautions, rules and regulations;

- Interact diplomatically with public, establish and maintain effective and cooperative working relationship with others.

: Physical Requirements

- Moderately heavy work involving frequent standing, walking, balancing, bending, stooping, crouching, kneeling, squatting; pushing, pulling and lifting items weighing up to 100 pounds.

Working Conditions

- Regular attendance is an essential function of this job to ensure continuity of services.

- Position is subject to drug testing in accordance with applicable State and Federal regulations and City of Clovis policies.

- Essential duties are predominantly performed outdoors with exposure to all types of weather conditions.

- Employee is exposed to airborne particles, potentially toxic and/or caustic chemicals, and extreme temperatures, travel from site to site, work around traffic and heavy construction equipment.

- Use of safety shoes, glasses and other equipment is required
