To help facilitate our expanding business, RMS Energy is currently seeking an Operations Project Manager to join our dynamic and fast-growing team. The Operations Project Manager oversees the installation, assembly, maintenance, repair, and testing of a diverse range of transformers from various Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs). They are responsible for supporting the successful delivery of transformer projects by overseeing the daily performance of 2-3 field crews, each consisting of 4-5 technicians and a crew supervisor. Assigned to a Regional Manager, the Field Project Manager serves as a critical operational link between field teams, supervisors, and company leadership. This role focuses on daily coordination, safety compliance, workforce planning, and continuous crew development, ensuring field activities align with customer expectations and company standards.

Preferred Locations: Texas and nearby states.

Responsibilities:

  • Assign and manage 2-3 transformer service crews within the assigned regional footprint, in coordination with the Regional Manager.
  • Conduct formal performance meetings with employees and their supervisors to review training progress, performance concerns, and career development.
  • Train and coach Crew Supervisors on delegation, productivity management, scheduling, and work expectations.
  • Conduct regular site walks to observe crew behavior, verify equipment care, and inspect safety compliance, work quality, and housekeeping.
  • Review and approve crew timesheets accurately and on time.
  • Collaborate with the Regional Manager on project scheduling, customer quoting, job scoping, and crew rotation planning.
  • Identify and process change orders, ensuring scope clarity and complete documentation.
  • Review and organize all project documentation, including internal and customer reports; ensure proper uploading to SharePoint job folders.
  • Coordinate across specialized technical areas such as LTCs, oil processing, electrical testing, and control wiring to maintain job continuity.
  • Review Job Safety Analyses (JSAs) for quality and completeness.
  • Ensure all required safety training is completed by crew members and that incident reports are submitted and fully reviewed.
  • Support crews in interpreting electrical drawings, schematics, and nameplate data.
  • Guide crews in precision work involving gasket cutting, valve packing, and pressure-rated equipment.
  • Provide field support for material identification, sourcing, and procurement as needed.
  • Supervise and assist in transformer assembly and preparation, including installation of components (radiators, bushings, conservators), re-gasketing, and removal of damaged parts for transport.
  • Oversee oil processing activities such as sampling, filling, degassing, and dry-out procedures to maintain transformer reliability.
  • Conduct pressure and vacuum testing using dehydrator units, ensuring all processes meet performance standards.
  • Perform and support transformer testing and troubleshooting, including Megger, TTR, SFRA, Power Factor, Core Ground, alarm systems, and passivation.
  • Review test results for completeness and alignment with the scope of work; escalate abnormalities to Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) when necessary.
  • Troubleshoot complex field issues such as vacuum/pressure leaks, wet transformers, oil processors or dry-air malfunctions, and control wiring problems.
  • Develop and implement troubleshooting plans in collaboration with SMEs and field leadership.
  • Promote technical knowledge sharing by documenting and distributing lessons learned to improve future performance.
  • Assume other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • 5-10 years of experience transformer oil work, transformer testing, transformer assembly, transformer service, or transferable experience.
  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • An associate's or Bachelor's degree in Electrical Technology or Mechanical Engineering from an accredited institution is preferred.
  • NETA 2, 3, or 4 and/or PMP certification (PMI or IPMA-C) preferred.
  • Class A CDL, OSHA certification and TWIC card are a plus.
  • Strong familiarity with Microsoft Office, online tools, and basic computer skills.
  • Understanding of power industry clients, EPCs, and market dynamics.
  • Previous experience operating electrical equipment and shop tools is a plus.
  • Able to interpret work scopes, drawings, diagrams, and technical documents.
  • Knowledge or related experience in prepping units for disposal following proper environmental disposal procedures.
  • Exceptional communication and presentation skills, with a strong customer focus and the ability to effectively convey complex information to diverse audiences.
  • Excellent organizational, time management, leadership, and decision-making skills, demonstrating a capacity for managing multiple priorities and driving project success.

  • Work location varies depending on client and project assignment
  • Ability to travel 80% of the time including weekends and evenings.
  • Must complete annual safety training to remain compliant with company policies and safety regulations. Training may occasionally require travel outside the employee's assigned state or region.
  • Ability to pass a stringent drug screening and background check, ensuring compliance with organizational standards and policies
  • Hold a valid and current driver's license with a clean driving record, demonstrating reliability and adherence to safety regulations.

Working Conditions:

This job requires the ability to respond to 24/7 call-outs and to work extended hours, including evenings, nights, weekends, and holidays, as needed. Work may be conducted outdoors in all weather conditions, near low-, medium-, and high-voltage equipment and heavy machinery, in areas with elevations in excess of 100 feet, and confined spaces, adhering to strict safety protocols. Exposure to loud noises from machinery is common, necessitating the use of personal protective equipment (PPE). This job involves the risk of electrical shock. This job requires frequent travel between RMS facilities and customer sites.

Physical Requirements:

The position demands physical mobility to navigate uneven surfaces, the ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds regularly, fine motor skills for handling small components and tools, and the capability to climb ladders and work at heights. Sustained physical effort, including standing, bending, pushing, digging, pulling, kneeling, crawling, and reaching for extended periods, is required. Good vision, including color vision and depth perception, and the ability to hear alarms and communications in noisy environments are essential. Additionally, proficiency in speaking, hearing, reading, and typing in English is required for effective communication and documentation.
