MOTOR EQUIPMENT OPERATOR I
DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASS: Employees in this position perform duties in connection with the operation of construction and maintenance equipment classified as light duty equipment. However, other equipment may be operated on a relief or training basis. The incumbent is required to perform manual duties related to the operation and upkeep of equipment when not operating equipment. They receive specific instructions from a supervisor and are responsible for the safe and efficient operation and upkeep of their equipment. Does related work as required.
TYPICAL WORK ACTIVITIES:
Operates motor equipment such as: carpenters truck, paint truck single axle dump truck, paint truck (stake body), patch roller and other types of equipment classified as light duty used in the construction and maintenance of highways and other public works projects;
Operates equipment and participates in snow removal activities such as sanding roads, acting as wingperson", shoveling, etc.;
Cuts trees, weeds and bushes, and does manual road patching and
traffic flagging in conjunction with highway maintenance; Assist in the installation of guide rails, posts and culvert pipes; Performs minor preventive maintenance on department equipment; Performs physical labor such as loading trucks, digging ditches,
cutting trees and brush, flushing sewers, cleaning culverts, and raking blacktop;
May on assignment, operate other types of automotive equipment.
FULL PERFORMANCE KNOWLEDGE, SKILL ABILITIES AND PERSONAL CHARACTERISTICS:
Good knowledge of the operation of trucks and other equipment classified as light duty equipment;
Ability to understand and follow simple oral and written directions;
Willingness to respond to emergencies and perform overtime work; Willingness to work in adverse weather conditions;
Mechanical aptitude;
Physical condition commensurate with the demands of the position.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Graduation from high school or possession of an equivalency diploma.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENT AT TIME OF APPOINTMENT: Possession of the appropriate level Commercial Driver's License (CDL).
