General Statement of Duties

Forsyth County's Department of Parks and Recreation has an opening for a Maintenance Supervisor. This position will be responsible for overseeing the daily operation and maintenance of Triad Park and all associated facilities located therein. Facilities may include multiple picnic shelters, multiple restroom facilities, enclosed banquet halls, aquatic features, amphitheaters, concert fields and sports fields, playgrounds, disc golf courses, lakes and ponds, etc. The employee in this position will be responsible for weekly and monthly planning, scheduling and supervision of work crews in skilled to unskilled maintenance activities in building and grounds maintenance and park construction. Work includes performing mechanical repair work as needed. Initiative and independent judgment is required in scheduling and determining appropriate levels of maintenance and repair procedures, assigning personnel to repair work and supervising garage personnel. Work is performed under general direction and is evaluated in conferences, through reports, and by effectiveness of operations.

Work Schedule is 8:00am to 5:00pm, Monday through Friday, but may include calls/work on evenings, holidays, and weekends to cover for events and vacancies.

Work environment is outdoors with exposure to weather, multiple types of machines, various pesticides, and heights (in bucket truck and man lift). Must be able to lift 50-75 lbs. Distinguishing Features

A successful candidate should have:

Thorough knowledge of procedures for care, operation, maintenance and repair of County buildings, facilities and grounds, gasoline and diesel engines.

Considerable knowledge of the hazards and applicable safety precautions of mechanical work. Considerable ability to diagnose causes of defective operation of vehicles. Ability to organize, direct, and coordinate the work of automotive mechanics. Ability to prepare cost estimates and shop records. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees. Ability to establish and enforce required safety rules. Ability to read and review contracts, plans and specifications. Ability to effectively maintain and review data for all required software systems. Minimum Education and Experience

Graduation from high school or GED and five years relevant experience; or

Completion of technical school or trade certification in a building or grounds maintenance trade and three years experience.

One year or more of supervisory experience required.

A valid driver's license is required.

A higher education level may be considered as a substitution for all or part of the experience requirement.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Essential duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to:
Plans, schedules, and supervises the maintenance and repair of building, grounds, parks and equipment performed by maintenance and automotive mechanics.

Conducts performance appraisals, participates in recruitment and selection activities, and provides training to employees. Assists mechanics in troubleshooting problems.
Issues parts and supplies to mechanics. Maintains inventories of parts, supplies, and gasoline. Prepares written reports and maintains records for all required purposes; may monitor and help prepare budget. Makes arrangements with local vendors to purchase materials, tools, and equipment. Diagnoses the problem; writes and issues repair orders; determines time and labor for the job; inspects work in progress and upon completion. Administers a preventive maintenance program for county vehicles. May administer a preventive maintenance program for county vehicles. Maintains required information for computer based work order and preventive maintenance systems and any other required software systems. Order supplies and materials while researching, ordering and issuing parts and supplies to mechanics as needed. Assists mechanics in troubleshooting. Conducts performance appraisals, participate in recruitment and selection and provide training to employees.
