What Will You Do?

The Saw Operator operates the band saw to provide job packages to the welding department. This role supports production efficiency, and contributes to the continuous improvement of manufacturing. This position requires the lifting of metal parts and pieces onto the saw to make necessary cuts. Attention to detail will be required to ensure accuracy in job performance

Essential Responsibilities:

• Material Preparation & Cutting
  • Operate and set up saw cutting equipment to cut raw materials to specified dimensions
  • Accurately measure materials to specified dimensions
  • Read and interpret blueprints and work orders to ensure accurate cuts and quality production
• Welding & Fabrication Support
  • Assist welders by preparing materials, positioning parts, and performing basic tack welding
  • Perform metal fabrication tasks including cutting, grinding, drilling, and assembly
  • Assist with design and build based on blueprints or verbal instructions
• Production Support
  • Support production teams with material handling, staging, and movement of material
  • Provide total support for production equipment and services
• Ability to paint rack frames on an as-needed basis (secondary function)
• Collaboration with Supply Chain team to monitor and report out on steel inventory
• Participate in continuous improvement initiatives and lean manufacturing activities
• Assist with various shop tasks and rotate duties based on daily workload
• Maintain a clean, organized work environment to support smooth production, while ensuring compliance with safety protocols
• Collaborate with production supervisor to plan daily support priorities

Requirements for Effective Performance:

• High school diploma or GED
• 2 -5 years experience in tool making, fabrication, or industrial rack manufacturing
• Minimum 1 year of experience operating saws or similar machinery preferred
• Prior experience in the manufacturing industry preferred
• Ability to lift up to 45 lbs and perform physical labor throughout the shift

Skills/Abilities/Specifications:

• Cap able of operating a forklift upon completion of a certification course

• Capable of operating an overhead crane upon completion of a certification course
• Ability to read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and technical drawings
• Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work independently or as part of a team
• Excellent time management and organizational skills
• Ability to maintain a regular and reliable attendance record
• Fluently read, write, speak, and understand the English language
• Must be able to read a ruler/tape measure and analog clock
• Ability to pay attention to detail and follow written instructions
• Good organizational skills and the ability to follow instructions
• Basic math and geometry

• Safety toe shoes and safety glasses are required while in production areas.
• Hearing protection while operating the saw
• Respirator use while operating the paint booth
• Regularly required to sit, stand, and walk throughout the office and production areas; have use of hands and fingers to use a computer, telephone, and other office equipment; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 45 pounds.
