Job Summary:

The Farm Nutrient Equipment Operator manages the litter in the manure barns including placement, turning and drying, blending, and taking samples to monitor quality and process effectiveness . Operate s loader s and other equipment to unload, manage inventory, blend fertilizer and load trucks and is r esponsible for repair and maintenance of equipment.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Handles the blending of materials used for composting of spent hens and mortality

  • Inspects and maintains all equipment

  • Transport s supplies and equipment from location t o location

  • Take s samples of manure coming out of houses for laboratory analysis

  • Take s daily moisture samples

  • Tracks loads , calculate s total tons, check s and mark fields, and guide s trucks to proper locations

  • Performs other functions including site and equipment maintenance as defined by the supervisor

  • Assists as needed during spring and fall fertilizer seasons with equipment moving and maintenance

Backup:

A trained designee will be appointed by management to cover for absences or vacancies; refer to Rembrandt Foods site-specific facility back-up matrix on file.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

Required:

  • Valid drivers license

  • Mechanical and heavy equipment knowledge

  • Ability to d rive tractors, front-end loader, pay-loader, skid loader, scat machine and trucks

  • Ability to operate power tools and equipment safely

  • Awareness and knowledge of surroundings in relation to climate, atmosphere, and equipment

  • Hand/Eye/Foot Coordination

  • Independent Self Starter/Team Player

  • Attention to detail

  • Ability to read, understand and effectively communicate information through writing and speaking so others will understand

  • Intermediate English: speaking, reading, and writing

  • Mathematical skills: General Arithmetic/Basic Algebra/Percentages/Fractions

Preferred:

  • Valid state motor vehicle operators license, CDL or other DOT qualifications for operation of a commercial motor vehicle

  • Fine Motor Skills

  • Computer Skills: Touch screen, Word, Excel, Outlook, Internet

Equipment:

  • Hard hat/Helmet/Hearing protection/ Safety glasses/Respirator mask/Harness for protection

  • Trucks/ Tractor/Front-end Loader/Pay - loader/Scat machine/Ground-keeping equipment

  • Hand tools/ Power tools

  • Large push broom, kitchen pull broom/Squeegee, floor mop/ High pressure wand/ Air hoses

Universal Expectations:

  • Follows all Safety, Biosecurity, Environmental, and Animal Welfare Procedures

  • Ensure s compliance with and follow s all OSHA and REI safety regulations and procedures

  • Ensure s that all care is provided with respect to customer, client and co-workers rights

  • Ensure s a safe and clean work environment

  • Maintain s confidentiality

  • Adheres to work schedules in completing and performing assigned tasks

  • Takes appropriate action to ensure the integrity and sustained certification of the SQF system.

  • Responsible for reporting and taking any necessary action to prevent food safety and food quality problems from occurring.

  • Responsible for following and enforcing procedures outlined in the Food Safety Plan and the Food Quality Plan and any other programs that support the SQF system and other 3 rd party audits

  • Perform s other tasks as assigned
