Lead Mechanic

JOB SUMMARY:

The purpose of the lead mechanic position at Lewis Services is to ensure the proper functioning, maintenance and repair of vehicles, equipment and machinery essential to vegetation management. This position also supports tree trimming and line clearing operations for utilities and various other customers. The lead mechanic will be responsible for directing and supporting the efforts of mechanically skilled tradespeople, machinists, and garage mechanics in a field or garage setting in conjunction with other maintenance staff. The goal of the lead mechanic is to safely ensure that our equipment is ready and able to be used by the operations field staff.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

  • Responsible for mounting, assembling, and having accurate performance checks on all parts.
  • Responsible for identifying problems or malfunctions in vehicles or heavy equipment using appropriate diagnostic tools and experience.
  • Responsible for preventative routine maintenance and inspection of equipment and machinery per Lewis Services policies and/or manufacturing recommendations.
  • Perform necessary repairs, replacements, and adjustments to fix faulty components or systems such as changing fluids, replacing parts, and ensuring correct operations.
  • Responsible for quality of installation and repairs performed on Lewis Services vehicles and equipment.
  • Utilize small and large manual hand tools to fasten and assemble various components onto mobile equipment.
  • Utilize powered tools such as impact wrenches to drill and fasten various components onto mobile hydraulic equipment.
  • Responsible for ensuring all equipment is tested properly.
  • Responsible for staying informed of new equipment specifications, standards, practices, and procedures.
  • Responsible for communicating new equipment standards and practices to the rest of the mechanical staff.
  • Manage and safeguard employees and the public from hazards in and around the work area, while managing own safety and properly donning applicable personal protective equipment.
  • Manage daily time for the staff and ensuring overtime is appropriately utilized.
  • Responsible for maintaining a clean and orderly work environment within and on Lewis trucks.
  • Manage and be responsible for making sure that own hand tools are furnished and ready to use as directed by Lewis Services.
  • Ensure that safety compliance to all procedures and policies are being followed.
  • Be the lead for service calls and ensure that the technicians follow the best practices.
  • Communicate with clients (internal and external), explain issues clearly, and present solutions with confidence.
  • Work closely with the operations team to accurately complete service tickets, reports, and digital documentation.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High School or GED Required.
  • 3+ years of experience working in an mechanical position or similar industry.
  • Must be proficient with maintaining and repairing ALL equipment vital to vegetation management services. This includes, but is not limited to, UTVs, ATVs, forestry trucks with lifts, heavy trucks, chippers and grinders, skidders, tracked equipment, and other construction type equipment used for operations
  • Supervisory experience preferred.
  • PC skills and knowledge required.
  • Ability to diagnose electrical and mechanical issues without supervision.
  • Comfortable with mentoring and leading a team.
  • Valid Drivers License Required
  • CDL Required within the first 90 days of employment of this position.
  • Must read and understand tape measurements, diagrams, and blueprints.
  • Obtain and maintain company-provided CPR and First-Aid Certifications.
  • Obeying state and federal laws.

TECHNOLOGY, EQUIPMENT & TOOLS:

  • Proficient with standard office equipment i.e., computer, phones, scanner, fax, and copier.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office programs including Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Word, Microsoft
  • Must be proficient with electronic diagnostic tools for all equipment in the fleet.

Pay Range: $60,000-$85,000 annually
