DOTD EMPLOYEES: Refer to appropriate EDSM directive for required structured training requirements and PPM # 59 Workforce Development on training guidelines. This position may be filled as a Detail to Special Duty or a Probationary Appointment requiring 6-24 months on probation.
There are 5 vacancies for this announcement located in Terrebonne and Lafourche parishes. These positions will operate a variety of heavy equipment for the purposes of road/bridge construction and maintenance.

Job Duties:
50% OPERATES THE FOLLOWING HEAVY EQUIPMENT AS NEEDED:
Asphalt Distributor - Truck mounted, backhoes, front end loaders, bucket/ladder trucks, cranes/draglines, dozers, dump truck, gradalls, hot mix pavers, motor grader, lowboys, milling machines, road planer, road widener, sewer cleaners, striping machines, sweepers, track hoes, under bridge inspection units
40% OPERATES SKID STEERS, ROLLERS, JET AIR PATCHER, 72-HP TRACTORS WITH 15FT BAT WING MOWERS, AND TRACTOR MOUNTED SLOPE MOWER. INSTALLS AND MAINTAINS TEMPORARY TRAFFIC CONTROL DEVICES AND SERVES AS A FLAG PERSON DURING TRAFFIC CONTROL OPERATIONS. USES A VARIETY OF HAND TOOLS SUCH AS: SHOVELS, RAKES, JACKHAMMER, DEMOLITION SAW, CHAIN SAW, STRING TRIMMER, AND POLE SAW. PERFORMS MANUAL TASK SUCH AS POTHOLE PATCHING, MANUAL CUTTING OF BUSH AND GRASS, DITCH DIGGING, CLEANING BUILDINGS, ASSISTING IN MUD JACK OPERATIONS, CUTTING TREES, COLLECTING LITTER, CLEANING AND REPAIRING OF ASPHALTIC CONCRETE AND PORTLAN CEMENT CONCRETE PAVEMENTS AS WELL AS BRIDGE DECKS, AND OTHER MANUAL TASKS AS NEEDED TO ACCOMPLISH THE DEPARTMENT'S MISSION.
5% PERFORMS MINOR REPAIRS, SERVICES, PREVENTATIVE MEINTENANCE, AND CLEANS EQUIPMENT IN ACCORDANCE WITH OPERATOR'S MANUAL AND MANUFACTURE'S RECOMMENDATIONS TO KEEP EQUIPMENT OPERATING EFFICIENTLY AND SAFELY.
5% MAY BE REQUIRED TO PERFORM OTHER DUTIES AS NECESSARY INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO, EMERGENCY/DISASTER SUPPORT ACTIVITIES.
Position-Specific Details:
As part of a Career Progression Group, vacancies may be filled from this recruitment as a Mobile Equipment Operator 1, 2 or 1/Heavy depending on the level of experience of the selected applicant(s). The maximum monthly salary for the Mobile Equipment Operator 1/Heavy is $6,566. Please refer to the "Job Specifications" tab located at the top of the LA Careers "Current Job Opportunities" page of the Civil Service website for specific information on salary ranges, minimum qualifications and job concepts for each level.
MOBILE EQUIPMENT OPERATOR 1:
Class D, Chauffeurs License will be required upon appointment. Starting salary for MEO-1 is $16.06/hourly; this job title receives Premium Pay in the amount of $1.00/hour for all hours worked. Additionally, a 10% base pay increase will be granted upon attainment of permanent status.
MOBILE EQUIPMENT OPERATOR 2:
Class A, Commercial Driver's License (CDL) will be required upon appointment. Starting salary for MEO-2 is $17.18/hourly; this job title receives Premium Pay in the amount of $1.00/hour for all hours worked. Additionally, a 10% base pay increase will be granted upon attainment of permanent status.
MOBILE EQUIPMENT OPERATOR 1/HEAVY:
Class A, Commercial Driver's License (CDL) will be required upon appointment. Starting salary for MEO-1/HEAVY is $21.05/hourly.
