Lead Civil/Structural Engineer - Nuclear Projects (Hybrid)
Energize your career with a strategic leadership role in the nuclear energy sector. A dynamic engineering, procurement, and project management firm is seeking a Lead Civil/Structural Engineer to support its growing Nuclear Services Division. In this position, you will lead the civil/structural discipline for commercial nuclear power generation projects-playing a pivotal role in design, analysis, and construction initiatives across operating and new reactor sites.
This is a hybrid position requiring a minimum of 3 days in-office each week (typically Tuesday through Thursday), with remote flexibility on other days. Travel to plant sites is expected approximately 6-8 days per month, with the ability to support longer on-site durations as needed.
Key Responsibilities:- Lead civil/structural engineering teams in the development of design deliverables for nuclear facility projects.
- Guide proposal efforts and collaborate with multi-disciplinary teams on complex project scopes.
- Serve as the technical lead and discipline expert for clients and internal project teams.
- Develop and review engineering change packages (ECPs) in accordance with nuclear industry standards.
- Prepare scoping documents, project proposals, and cost estimates for structural and civil modifications.
- Conduct site walkdowns to verify existing plant conditions and gather field data.
- Provide design calculations and detailed analysis supporting new installations and plant upgrades.
- Ensure compliance with applicable codes (AISC, ACI, ASTM) and procedures such as IP-ENG-001.
- Support modeling and documentation processes using design software (AutoCAD, RISA, ANSYS, Vault, etc.).
- Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering (required), with a structural engineering emphasis (highly preferred)
- Master's degree in engineering or related field (preferred)
- Professional Engineer (PE) license (highly preferred), or ability to obtain within 1 year of hire
- At least 8 years of civil/structural design experience, including 4+ years in nuclear plant modification projects (DOE or commercial)
- Experience with multiple operating nuclear utilities and vendors (highly preferred)
- Previous or current unescorted access to nuclear facilities (preferred) or ability to obtain
- Knowledge of industry-standard procedures and structural design codes
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office; working knowledge of Bluebeam, AutoCAD, RISA, ANSYS, and related tools (preferred)
- Strong civil/structural engineering experience in commercial nuclear environments
- Ability to interpret complex codes, standards, and regulations
- Effective troubleshooting and problem-solving within high-stakes environments
- Excellent communication and technical writing skills
- Strong interpersonal skills to collaborate across disciplines and interface with clients
- Adaptability and leadership in a matrixed organizational structure
