District Recruitment for Concordia Parish
The purpose of this position is to operate a variety of heavy equipment for the purposes of road/bridge construction and maintenance. It is located in District 58/Unit 550, reporting to the Concordia Parish Maintenance Office in Ferriday, LA. We are looking for a Mobile Equipment Operator that is self-motivated, able to perform tasks with minimal supervision and able to interpret unforeseen conditions as they may arise. As a Mobile Equipment Operator, you will participate in appropriate DOTD structured training programs and attend all continuing education classes and conferences deemed necessary to facilitate the performance of required tasks.

Job Duties:
50% Operates the following heavy equipment, as needed:
+ Asphalt Distributor (truck mounted)
+ Backhoes
+ Front end loaders
+ Bucket/ladder trucks
+ Cranes/draglines (lifting capacity >20,000 lbs but <40,000>40,000>
+ Dozers (<140>140>
+ Dump truck (tandem axle or trailer dump)
+ Gradalls
+ Hot mix pavers (<40>40>
+ Motor Grader
+ Lowboys
+ Milling machines (<90>90>
+ Road planer
+ Road widener (<90>90>
+ Sewer Cleaners (truck mounted)
+ Striping machines
+ Sweepers
+ Track hoes (excavators)
+ Under bridge inspection units (trailer mounted)
40% Miscellaneous Job-related Tasks:
+ Operates skid steers, rollers, jet air patcher, 72-hp tractors with 15ft. bat wing mowers, and tractor mounted slope mower.
+ Installs and maintains temporary traffic control devices and serves as a flag person during traffic control operations.
+ Uses a variety of hand tools such as: shovels, rakes, jackhammer, demolition saw, chain saw, string trimmer, and pole saw.
+ Performs manual task such as pothole patching, manual cutting of bush and grass, ditch digging, cleaning buildings, assisting in mud jack operations, cutting trees, collecting litter, cleaning & repairing of asphaltic concrete and Portland cement concrete pavements as well as bridge decks, and other manual tasks as need to accomplish the departments mission.
5% Performs minor repairs, services, preventative maintenance, and cleans equipment in accordance with operators manual and manufactures recommendations to keep equipment operating efficiently and safely.
5% May be required to perform other duties as necessary including, but not limited to, emergency/disaster support activities.
Position-Specific Details:
Appointment Type: Probational or Promotional
Career Progression: This position may be filled as a Mobile Equipment Operator 1, 2, or 1/Heavy.
A Class A, Commercial Driver's License (CDL) is required for Mobile Equipment Operator 2 and 1/Heavy.
Work Schedule:Work hours are 6:00 AM to 4:30 PM, Monday - Thursday.
Compensation:
+ Mobile Equipment Operator 1: Starting salary is $16.06/hourly ; this job title receives Premium Pay in the amount of $1.00/hour for all hours worked. Additionally, a 10% base pay increase will be granted upon attainment of permanent status.
+ Mobile Equipment Operator 2: Starting salary is $17.18/hourly ; this job title receives Premium Pay in the amount of $1.00/hour for all hours worked. Additionally, a 10% base pay increase will be granted upon attainment of permanent status.
+ Mobile Equipment Operator 1/Heavy: Starting salary is $21.05/hourly .
