BrightFarms' fresh lettuce options, from classic greens to crunchy mixes and salad kits, are available in more than 4,500 retail stores across the East Coast and Midwest.

We are seeking a Senior Environmental, Health, and Safety Manager who is first and foremost an environmental champion—someone with the depth and strategic foresight to create and lead our environmental compliance, sustainability initiatives, and regulatory programs. Safety is a close second: the ideal candidate will also inspire, implement and uphold a strong health and safety culture across our operations. This role is best suited for a dynamic leader ready to drive transformative environmental programs while maintaining a high standard of workplace safety and compliance.

Specifically, you will:

  • Serve as the environmental authority for (5) greenhouse locations, managing all permit programs and reporting related to air, wastewater, stormwater, and hazardous/non-hazardous waste
  • Develop, implement, and continuously improve environmental management systems to ensure compliance with EPA, state, and local regulations
  • Lead site sustainability and resource conservation programs, including carbon footprint reduction, waste minimization, and water use optimization
  • Drive strategic initiatives that elevate environmental performance beyond compliance – fostering a culture of environmental responsibility
  • Interface with regulators, prepare for and lead audits, and respond to inspections or violations through root cause analysis and corrective actions
  • Create KPIs and dashboards to track environmental performance metrics and communicate results to stakeholders
  • Implement and maintain OSHA-compliant safety programs including incident investigation, hazard analysis, industrial hygiene, and training
  • Conduct safety audits, lead safety committee initiatives, and ensure active participation in safety programs
  • Champion a proactive injury prevention mindset
  • Collaborate with production and facilities teams to integrate EHS practices into processes and capital planning; Management of Change

The ideal candidate has:

  • Bachelor’s Degree required in Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering, Occupational Health & Safety, or a related field
  • Minimum 8-10 years’ experience, preferably in a food related industry or manufacturing setting with a strong emphasis on environmental compliance and regulatory strategy
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills; able to influence safety culture; proven ability to work well with cross-functional teams and engage at all levels of an organization
  • Demonstrated success managing air/water permitting, waste programs, and sustainability programs; clear understanding of OSHA and general industry safety standards

Preferred qualifications/working conditions/travel requirements:

  • Certified Safety Professional (CSP) preferred
  • 50-60% travel required
  • Preferred home location in the Macon, GA, Lorena, TX, or Yorkville, IL area or near a major airport
  • Exposure to industrial environment, hot and cold temperatures, and food safety related requirements
  • Frequent collaboration with leadership, safety committees, and regulatory agencies
