About this Opportunity

Manages contracts and inspection services during construction projects, ensuring that the construction meets federal ADA Compliance, and verifies conformance with contracts, plans, and specifications.

Job Duties and Responsibilities

  • Oversees and serves as the Citys representative for major construction projects. Coordinates and manages engineering, construction, consulting, and Capital Improvement projects.
  • Develops procedures and processes for the department.
  • Administers contracts and budgets for major construction projects, Construction Engineering and Capital Improvement construction programs.
  • Manages the inspection activities for major construction projects to ensure conformance with plans and specifications. Reviews materials used and construction procedures for adherence to specifications or accepted standards.
  • Negotiates with contractors on proposed changes in methodology or plans. Confers with consulting engineer.
  • Meets with contractors, architects, engineers, or work crews in the field to discuss status of construction projects and to resolve existing hazards and problems.
  • Reviews and monitors construction design standards and recommends engineering improvements for strategic and operational plans.
  • Performs contract and contractor dispute resolution, including representing department interests in mediation, litigation, and negotiation.
  • Coordinates construction projects with other City departments and serves as the department liaison to respond to contracts concerning construction projects and related questions.
  • Researches and responds to public inquiries concerning public works and contracted construction projects.
  • Performs related work as required.

Required Education and Experience

  • Bachelors degree from an accredited college or university in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field and
  • Three (3) to five (5) years of experience in project management or engineering for construction projects in urban areas or
  • An equivalent combination of education and/or experience
  • Excellent written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office
  • Ability to work collaboratively with a diverse population

Required Licenses or Certifications

  • Level I, II, III Contract Administration required to be completed within one year of hire.

Work Schedule

  • Monday-Friday, 7:30am-4:00pm
