Primary Role: The Kentucky State Police Trooper Island Water and Sewage Plant Operator I position is primarily responsible for day-to-day operation and maintenance of the Trooper Island wastewater treatment facility. This position also will be responsible to ensure necessary administrative tasks associated with the wastewater treatment facility are completed in a timely manner, and to ensure compliance with state and federal regulations. Other job duties may include operating machinery and equipment, performing landscaping and lawn care maintenance, and assisting other skilled trade professionals when necessary.

Additional job duties may include performing general repairs to plumbing, sewage, and electrical systems, completing basic carpentry repairs to facilities when necessary, and other duties as assigned.

Key Responsibilities:

• Operate and maintain waste water treatment facility
• Maintain records and ensure compliance with state and federal regulations related to waste water management
• Operate machinery and equipment required to complete duties.
• Perform mowing, trimming, and landscape duties on the property when necessary.
• Assist skilled trade professionals when required
• Perform general repairs to the plumbing, sewage, and electrical systems, and perform basic carpentry repairs to assigned facilities.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Preferred Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:

• Must have one-year experience in the operation of a water and, or, sewage plant.
• Must have a valid Class I (or higher) water treatment operator's license and, or, a Class I (or higher) wastewater operator's license as issued by the Kentucky Natural Resources and Environmental Protection Cabinet.
• Must maintain a valid driver's license.

Minimum Requirements

EDUCATION: High school graduate.

EXPERIENCE, TRAINING, OR SKILLS: Must have one year in the operation of a water and/or sewage plant.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS (AGE, LICENSURE, REGULATION, ETC.): Must have a valid Class I (or higher) water treatment operator's license and/or a Class I (or higher) wastewater operator's license as issued by the Kentucky Natural Resources and Environmental Protection Cabinet.

Must maintain any required licensure (s), certification(s), or other credentials for the length of employment in this job classification. Employing agency is responsible for ensuring employee possesses and maintains required licensure(s), certification(s) or other credentials.

Works outside in all types of weather conditions.

Probationary Period

This job has an initial and promotional probationary period of 6 months, except as provided in KRS 18A.111.
