Title: Engineering Supervisor

Classification: Exempt/Full Time

Reports to: General Manager

Location: Engineering Technology Corporation (Salt Lake City, UT)

Summary: Lead project management, engineering and service technicians in a direction that will result in the timely development and production of custom electromechanical equipment to satisfy customer requirements. To ensure that engineering department, company and financial goals and objectives are met by properly managing jobs and projects.

Responsibilities:

  • Manage the design/development of equipment to satisfy customer specifications regarding process performance, safety, quality and applicable standards such as CE along with OSHA and other standards.
  • Work with other departments such as sales, production, and service to streamline operations, improve effectiveness and lower cost while meeting or exceeding customer expectations
  • Ensure that staffing needs are meet-adjust as necessary
  • Develop and update job descriptions as needed.
  • Conduct annual reviews as needed
  • Attend and report at management meetings
  • Conduct regular project management coordination meetings.
  • Develop appropriate policies and procedures specific to the work flow of the engineering department-engineering manual, spreadsheets for calculations, design review process, machine check outs, etc.
  • Consult with sales on customer RFQ's
  • Coordinate brainstorming sessions to generate pre-quote concepts
  • Assist in the generate sales price sheet as requested by the Sales Engineer
  • Attend project kickoff meetings.
  • Assign project management, design, and other engineering personnel responsibilities.
  • Play an active role in brainstorming solutions to meet customer requirements
  • Actively participate in design review process as required depending on current milestone of the project.
  • Ensure that the design review process is being followed by project managers
  • Review labor utilization reports and reassign work as required.
  • Fundamental understanding of business finances, i.e. costing, margins, profit, overhead, SG&A, etc.
  • Sign off on machine manuals as needed
  • Create, review and manage staff, projects and schedules.
  • Direct and mentor young talent.
  • Perform the duties of project manager on an as needed basis
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering (or similar field). Master's degree in management or engineering a plus.
  • 1-2 years' experience with composites manufacturing processes, equipment and machinery.
  • 3-5 years' experience in a manufacturing / machining / production setting
  • Experience with vendors and supplier development
  • Experience with or formal training with concurrent engineering or phased development process.
  • Must have thorough knowledge of drafting techniques, procedures and guidelines
  • Experience with quality systems
  • Experience with six sigma methodologies
  • Must have solid problem solving and communication skills (oral and written)
  • 3-5 years' experience supervising engineering personnel.
  • Must be able to conceptualize solutions to complicated problems.
  • Willingness to travel 10-25%
  • Experience with formats such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Project, and Outlook
  • Experience with general machine design and fabrication techniques - Preferred
  • Experience with Design for Assembly (DFA) and Design for Manufacture (DFM) - Preferred
