MAJOR DUTIES, FUNCTIONS, AND RESPONSIBILITIES Essential duties and functions may include the following: Operates one or more of the following pieces of heavy equipment: motor grader, bulldozer, trencher, dump truck, backhoe, front-end loader, excavator, roller, tractor, mower, and other light weight and heavy duty equipment necessary for the accomplishment of various department projects. Inspects equipment prior to use to ensure that it is in proper operating condition. Services and makes minor repairs to equipment; operates two-way radio. Performs equipment maintenance duties such as lubricating, greasing, and checking belts, hoses, air, oil, gas, and other fluids. Loads dump truck and hauls rock, dirt, mulch, asphalt, and other materials to or from work sites. Fills and repairs roads, road shoulders; performs ditch and drainage construction, repair and cleaning. Performs manual labor tasks such as flagging traffic, mowing/weed-eating right-of-way, cleaning and maintaining streets and ditches, and pouring, spreading, and leveling asphalt, concrete, and gravel. Assists with the installation of street signs. Applies pesticide and herbicide. May be on call after hours to respond to emergency situations. Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
High School Diploma or GED.
Ability to read, write and perform basic mathematical calculations.
Sufficient experience to understand the basic principles relevant to the major duties of the position, usually associated with the completion of an apprenticeship/internship or having had a similar position for one to two years.
Possession of or ability to readily obtain a Class B CDL license with N endorsement issued by the State of Texas for the type of vehicle or equipment operated.
Possession of or ability to readily obtain a state-certified Commercial Pesticide Applicator s License.
