The Senior Architect will provide on-site construction management services for the Electronic Health Record Modernization (EHRM) infrastructure upgrades at Columbia Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Danville, IL. This full-time position requires a seasoned professional to oversee architectural aspects of the project, ensuring compliance with VA standards and successful project delivery.
Key responsibilities:
Review architectural concepts, tentative, intermediate, pre-final, and final drawings for completeness and accuracy
Perform detailed technical and constructability reviews for all design submissions
Verify designs comply with Government standards, approved scope of work, and applicable codes
Analyze shop drawings and working drawings for architectural components
Identify and advise on defects, conflicts, ambiguities, or discrepancies in contract documents
Provide written comments and recommendations to COR regarding design approvals and re-design submissions
Conduct daily inspections of architectural work for conformity with construction contract requirements
Maintain lists of observed defects and omissions related to architectural elements
Review architectural submittals for compliance with EHRM project specifications and VA Design Standards
Advise on cost-reducing alternatives without impairing overall quality
Participate in Value Engineering workshops and design review meetings
Monitor construction progress and annotate schedules showing actual progress achieved
Create weekly inspection reports identifying areas of work, project phases, and percent complete
Coordinate furniture moves between Columbia VAMC and EHRM Contractor
Ensure professional-grade quality in all submissions with no calculation or formatting errors
Perform other responsibilities associated with this position as may be appropriate
Qualifications to be successful in the role:
Bachelor's degree in Architecture from an accredited institution and minimum 6 years of professional experience (or 15 years of directly related experience in lieu of degree)
Minimum 3 years of field experience in construction management for similar projects
Experience with both design and construction phases of building projects
Experience with healthcare facility construction preferred
Proficiency in building codes, construction methods, and materials
Strong knowledge of quality control procedures and construction documentation
Required to complete 30-hour OSHA Safety Training within 60 days of start
Must lawfully reside in the United States and eligible for employment (Planate does not sponsor visas or work permits)
