Burns & McDonnell is excited to hire a Senior Business Architect working in our Kansas City, MO office. Working within the Enterprise Transformation Office (EXO), youll collaborate across teams to help Burns & McDonnell scale, innovate, and thrive as One Burns & Mac into next 125 years.

As a Senior Business Architect, youll be at the forefront of shaping the future of our enterprise. This is your opportunity to turn strategy into actionaligning organizational goals and translating them into measurable, outcome-driven initiatives that drive real impact.

In this role, you will play a critical part in assessing and optimizing business capabilities and processes, creating clarity around their maturity, and identifying where to invest in improvements. Youll architect the transformation from current to future state through structured planning and implementationpinpointing impacted stakeholders, interrelated processes, and the capabilities needed to enable lasting change. This position will be focused on supporting initiatives related to Sales, Marketing, & Client Experience, Supply Chain Management, Human Resources, and Finance.

  • Demonstrate an ability to analyze and visualize architecture in the context of the various business opportunities and challenges.

  • Exhibit strong executive presence and a proven track record of effectively influencing decisions and outcomes while fostering highly professional relationships throughout the organization.

  • Apply big picture and systems thinking to daily work.

Essential Functions

  • Participate in the development and maturation of business architecture and process management practice to drive enablement of long-term roadmap.

  • Lead business architecture analysis and business need assessments to identify opportunities to optimize business architecture and value streams, drive innovation, and enhance competitiveness.

  • Develop enhanced operating model designs to improve standardization, efficiency, and effectiveness informed by architecture.

  • Use various techniques including interviews, surveys, and workshops to discover, analyze and assess business architecture.

  • Partner with stakeholders to conduct internal stakeholder analysis, industry best-practice analysis, and other analysis to inform decision making.

  • Monitor, measure, and provide feedback on process and capability maturity and performance.

  • Elicit and document high-level business requirements for transformation initiatives ensuring alignment with the broader organization's goals and objectives.

  • Maintain the business architecture repository in accordance with business architecture and process management framework.

  • Collaborate with Program/Project Management, Enterprise Architecture, and other teams to enable transformation initiatives.

  • Collaborate with stakeholders in rolling out changes to the business or various departments.

  • Provide leadership, guidance, and instruction to less experienced staff.

  • Responsible for QA/QC process adherence.

  • Responsible for compliance with company and site safety policies.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

  • Complies with all policies and standards.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Management Information Systems, Operations Management, or related field and 8 years of relevant experience required.

  • Strong understanding of business architecture and enterprise architecture concepts.

  • Familiarity with BA Guild, TOGAF and/or other relevant industry bodies preferred.

  • Demonstrated experience modeling business architecture using a variety of tools and techniques (e.g., Business Capability Maps, Value Stream Mapping, etc.)

  • Familiarity with enterprise architecture tools, and/or process management tools preferred.

  • Familiarity with APQC Process Classification Framework or other process framework preferred.

  • Ability to drive and facilitate cross-functional collaboration to create strategies and plans which address business opportunities.

  • Ability to visualize and create high-level models that can be used in future analysis to extend and mature business architecture is preferred.

  • Ability to identify patterns and interdependencies to identify opportunities for reuse is preferred.

  • Must demonstrate excellent oral and written communication skills, strong interpersonal skills, and the ability to clearly and effectively present complex information to all levels of employees, management, and clients.

  • Strong problem-solving skills, with the ability to think strategically and analytically.

  • Demonstrated strength in conflict management and negotiation.

  • Certified Business Architect (CBA) preferred
