Job Title: Component Design Engineer
Working Pattern: Fulltime
Working location: Indianapolis, IN, Hybrid
As a Design Engineer for gas turbine engines, you will be part of the global Engineering, Technology & Safety organization. You will develop complex engineering solutions that satisfy cutting-edge aerospace functional and physical requirements and exhibit robustness for manufacturing capability. Within your assigned propulsion system program, youll be responsible for developing, assessing, and delivering hardware and systems solutions that push the envelope with performance, life, and efficiency while maintaining safety and reliability.
You will work to create design definitions that meet the given System/Sub-System/Component level requirements and product attributes. This role is also expected to be a leader within the group to make technical decision and lead projects with minimal management oversite. This is an exciting role where you will be able to apply your strong technical knowledge in mechanical design methodologies and understand cross-discipline engineering concepts which include, but are not limited to Design, Manufacturing Engineering, Aerodynamics, Thermodynamics, Performance, Stress and Lifing, Test, Cost Engineering, and Product Definition.

What you will be doing
With this attractive opportunity you will get a chance to:
- Develop new Component designs and design changes for high-performance gas turbine hardware and systems, which includes (but is not limited to) creating design concepts, optimizing concepts to a final definition, preparing technical presentations and documents, performing multiple analyses, supporting creation of drawings, delivering hardware for validation, and release of hardware to production.
- Perform analyses for gas turbine hardware and systems to substantiate suitability for new engine applications, extended performance of existing engines, and interface requirements.
- Present and defend design solutions and technical work to program leadership and other stakeholders.
- Support the supply chain in procuring hardware including review of supplier documentation, assessment of non-conforming hardware, and review of supplier change proposals.
- Support manufacturing, assembly, service, and aftermarket issues promptly as they arise to keep production on target and the fleet in operation
- Lead investigations of in-service and/or development hardware issues including failure analysis, root cause / corrective action (RCCA), reporting, and documentation. Share findings with the global turbomachinery team in accordance with export control regulations.
- Lead a team of high performing engineers within the group to deliver an engineering solution and meet project timelines and requirements
- Be a point of contact within the group for cross-functional disciplines as you work together to deliver a solution

Basic Requirements:
- Bachelors degree in mechanical or aerospace engineering, with 2+ years of experience in mechanical design, OR
- Masters degree in mechanical or aerospace engineering, OR
- JD/PhD in Mechanical or aerospace Engineering
- To be considered for this role, you must be a US Citizen
Preferred Requirements:
- Technical writing ability / experience
- Previous experience system or component design
- Previous experience in the aerospace industry
- Previous experience with military customers
- Previous experience with new product or system requirements and design
- Previous experience manufacturing and supply chain
- Previous experience with customer communication and requirements
- Strong Technical background
- Strong Teamwork capability
- Experience working in a New Product Introduction environment
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with experience working with all aspects of product design customers, suppliers, other engineering specialties, shop floor personnel, etc.
- Strong Leadership qualities
- Self-driven and motivated
