DESCRIPTION OF WORK

In this position, you will engage in hands-on training alongside a Diesel Mechanic, allowing you to cultivate essential technical skills and knowledge related to the maintenance and repair of a diverse range of diesel and gasoline-powered vehicles, as well as construction and maintenance equipment, and power generation machinery. As you progress and enhance your technical abilities, the complexity of your work assignments will increase accordingly. The training and development process will be overseen by the shop Supervisor and a senior mechanic, who will evaluate your work both during the process and upon its completion to ensure technical precision. Your responsibilities may include executing general mechanical tasks, participating in the analysis and troubleshooting of diesel fuel system issues, and diagnosing, rebuilding, and repairing various vehicles, including heavy trucks with a gross vehicle weight of 26,001 pounds or more, backhoes, skid-steers, compact utility tractors, zero-turn mowers, dump trucks, and handheld landscaping equipment.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Full-time employment
  • Work hours are 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with 30-minute lunch. May change based on operational needs.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

  • Two years as a Tradesman Helper (Commonwealth job title or equivalent Federal Government job title, as determined by the Office of Administration) working in the automotive field; or
  • Graduation from a post-high school diesel technology curriculum of an accredited trade or technical school; or
  • An equivalent combination of experience and training.

Special Requirements:

  • This position requires an active Pennsylvania Class A or B Commercial Driver Learner's Permit or License on the first day of employment.
  • This position requires possession of an active Pennsylvania Class B Commercial Driver's License with the Air Brake Restriction (L) and Manual Transmission Restriction (E) removed, or equivalent.
  • This position requires an active Pennsylvania Class 7 Inspection Mechanic Certification on the first day of employment.
