JOB TITLE: MAINTENANCE IV - PLUMBER

DEPARTMENT: MUNICIPAL MAINTENANCE

NON-EXEMPT: YES

FULL-TIME: YES

GRADE: G (RATE OF PAY: $22.50)

JOB SUMMARY: The person employed in this capacity will perform his/her duties under the direction of the Superintendent of Parks Maintenance. This person will maintain, repair and install electrical equipment, plumbing and perform minor repairs in the parks facilities and City buildings.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  • Maintain and repair plumbing facilities in public buildings, parks and city buildings.
  • Communicate effectively, courteously, and clearly in English with the public and other city employees by telephone and in person.
  • Attend training schools/seminars and other city-related events.
  • Secure an area with a key by locking and unlocking doorways and gates.
  • Maintain plumbing systems as required.
  • Maintain safety practices and procedures.
  • Dismantle devices to gain access to and remove defective parts.
  • Repair or replace defective parts.Install special functional and structural parts in devices.
  • Start devices to test their performance.
  • Initiate purchase orders for parts, tools and equipment.
  • Keep inventory, time and material records, as assigned; stock service vehicles as required.
  • Assist the crew in digging ditches to lay pipes.
  • Must be able to lift up to 150 lbs. of materials.
  • Perform minor building interior repairs and maintenance such as repairing damaged doors, walls, caulking, painting, and fixture leaks, etc.
  • Perform all other duties as may be assigned by supervisor.

TOOLS/EQUIPMENT:

  • Backhoe, trencher, tractor, bucket truck, service truck, tamper, pumps, generators, jackhammer, front end loader, dump truck, drain augers, thread machine and hand tools

REQUIRED EDUCATION, DEGREES, CERTIFICATES, AND/OR LICENSE:

  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Vocational training preferred in Plumbing, Electrical, and Gas.
  • Valid Driver's License

EXPERIENCE, TRAINING, KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:

  • Working knowledge of methods, materials and tools used in maintenance work;
  • Working knowledge of the occupational hazards and safety precautions of the trade.
  • Skill in operation of the listed tools and equipment.
  • Ability to follow proper methods, procedures and safety precautions of line work;
  • Ability to understand and follow complex oral and written instructions;
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships
