At Caterpillar, our Earthmoving productssuch as Medium Tractors, Wheel Loaders, Motor Graders, and Paving Productshelp shape the worlds infrastructure. As a Senior Technical Cost Engineer, youll play a key role in making these machines more cost-effective, efficient, and innovative.

What You Will Do:

  • Collaborate with managers across Concurrent Product and Process Development (CPPD) and cost management teams to identify cost opportunities and provide both strategic and tactical support.
  • Deliver cost insights and feasibility studies to drive improvements in design, manufacturing processes, and sourcing strategies.
  • Analyze and present cost reduction opportunities, including quality trade-offs and insights from should-cost reviews.
  • Focus on specific categoriessuch as castings, non-metallic materials, and harnessesand targeted systems or components for both baseline and new designs.
  • Summarize and present cost analysis findings and recommendations to support informed decision-making across CPPD teams.
  • Support cost initiatives including New Product Introduction (NPI), New Source Introduction (NSI), and Operating Profit After Capital Charge (OPACC) improvement projects.
  • Participate in cost-related events such as Rapid Improvement Workshops (RIW), Value Analysis/Value Engineering (VAVE), and Low-Cost Producer (LCP) initiatives, and contribute to global collaboration efforts through the International Collaboration Team (ICT).
  • Provide coaching and training on cost analysis tools and methodologies, including the use of tools within the Should-Cost and RPM (Rapid Product Modeling) frameworks.
  • Demonstrate strong communication skills and flexibility to work across diverse teams, adapting to changing priorities and driving alignment across functions.

What You Have (Basic Qualifications):

  • Education: Bachelors degree in engineering or a technical curriculum.
  • Strong analytical thinking : Hands-on experience in cost analysis, cost modeling, and identifying value-driven opportunities across product development and manufacturing.
  • Effective communication skills: Ability to clearly convey complex technical and financial information to cross-functional teams and stakeholders.
  • Proven ability to manage multiple priorities and projects : Proven ability to manage multiple priorities and projects, demonstrating strong organizational skills, time management, and the flexibility to adapt in a dynamic, fast-paced environment.

Additional Info :

  • Office Model: This position requires the employee to work a 5-day-a-week schedule in the office.
  • Travel: 15% domestic and international travel is expected.
  • Relocation: Domestic relocation will be available to those who qualify.
  • ISE: ISE assignments are not available.

Summary Pay Range:

$110,520.00 - $165,840.00

Compensation and benefits offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, job level, market location, job-related knowledge, skills, individual performance and experience. Please note that salary is only one component of total compensation at Caterpillar.
