Yamhill County is hiring 4 Medium Equipment Operators to operate moderately complex automotive equipment; performs skilled manual tasks; does related work as required.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED:

Works under the direct supervision of a Supervisor or Lead Worker of a higher grade who assigns duties, observes performance, and inspects work for conformance to road maintenance standards.

SUPERVISION EXERCISED:

May exercise working supervision over a few assistants or laborers engaged in semi-skilled tasks.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF POSITIONS ASSIGNED TO THIS CLASSIFICATION. DEPENDING ON ASSIGNMENT, THE EMPLOYEE MAY PERFORM A COMBINATION OF SOME OR ALL OF THE FOLLOWING DUTIES:

  • Truck driver - operates dump trucks and trucks over 36,000 lbs GVW in hauling and dumping construction materials for road and bridge maintenance activities, including trailers and attachments.
  • Brush Cutter - operates heavy tractor in cutting brush along roadsides and rights-of-way.
  • Heavy Roller Operator - operates rollers over 6 tons in asphalt and sub-grade operations.
  • Backhoe - operates backhoe in ditching and culvert installation operations.
  • Aqua Tech Flusher - operates culvert flushing equipment in cleaning and maintaining drainage systems.
  • Loader operator - operates rubber-tire front-end loaders in loading materials and related tasks.
  • Force Feed Loader - operates loader in ditching and soil removal operations.

KNOWLEDGE OF:

  • Operation, maintenance, and minor repair of moderately complex automotive or road maintenance equipment.
  • State laws pertaining to the operation of motor vehicles and equipment on roads and highways.

SKILL IN:

  • Resourcefulness, dexterity, and mechanical aptitude.
  • Performing specialized work as assigned.

ABILITY TO:

  • Be in good physical condition.
  • Perform heavy manual work under inclement conditions.
  • Attend work as scheduled and/or required.

MINIMUM EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING:

Experience in road construction, maintenance, and repair including experience in operation of motorized road construction equipment and maintenance. Considerable experience in performing skilled manual tasks. Completion of eighth grade or sufficient education or training to read and write, and to understand and follow directions; or any satisfactory combination of experience and training.

SPECIAL QUALIFICATIONS PREFERRED:

Possession of valid Oregon class A CDL.

OTHER REQUIREMENTS:

Ability to secure and maintain a drivers license valid in the state of Oregon, or an acceptable alternative means of transportation. May be required to drive a County vehicle. Employees authorized to operate a private vehicle on County business are required to carry a valid drivers license and liability insurance minimums as outlined in ORS 806.070.

May be subject to successful completion of a background check.

WORK ENVIRONMENT/PHYSICAL DEMANDS SUMMARY:

The incumbent typically works in a building and in outdoor areas and uses mechanical equipment as needed to perform duties with associated noise levels. Weather conditions will vary. The employee may encounter frequent interruptions throughout the workday.

The employee is regularly required to talk, listen and hear, frequently required to use repetitive hand motion, handle or feel, and to sit, stand, walk, reach, bend, regularly push, pull and lift up to 40 pounds and occasionally push, pull and lift up to 60 pounds. The incumbent will regularly use mechanical equipment typical of those used in the maintenance of buildings and landscape.

The physical demands are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.
