Summary

The Operator 1 Material Control performs various types of material handling work, including moving parts and supplies throughout the plant with forklifts and/or overhead cranes, loading and/or unloading material onto/from truck trailers with forklifts and/or overhead cranes, and learning to perform inventory cycle counts.

Duties and Responsibilities

To perform this job successfully an individual must be able to perform the following essential duties satisfactorily. Other duties may be assigned to address business needs and changing business practices.

  • Maintains information regarding which parts and supplies go to various production areas and ensures that these areas are fully stocked
  • Operates forklift and overhead cranes to move material into position to produce railcar parts and sub-assemblies
  • Ensures that equipment is maintained and operating properly before beginning work
  • Reads and comprehends blueprints or weld drawings and procedures
  • Loads and/or unloads materials onto/from truck trailers using forklift and/or overhead cranes
  • Actively engages in learning to conduct inventory counts to maintain a correct perpetual inventory count
  • Trains to become efficient in cycle counting process, which includes counting material as it comes through and comparing it to what is show in the system. Working with key members of the department as well as corporate to ensure accurate counts.
  • Ensures that safety and housekeeping standards are met and maintained

Minimum Qualifications

  • Ability to read and comprehend blueprints and work instructions
  • Ability to work in a team or independently
  • Ability to obtain in-house forklift certification

Preferred Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalency test/GED

  • Additional PPE may be required as determined by the environment.
