Job Title: Electrical Engineering Technician Job Location: 12301 Kurland Drive, Houston, TX 77034 Primary Function :
The Engineering Technician should possess the electrical theory required to learn the design techniques and procedures, under close supervision, which will be used in electrical substation or transmission layout and electrical fundamentals.
Duties & Responsibilities
Employee may be called upon to perform any or all of the following functions:
- Develop and track all drawings required for the construction of an electrical substation under supervision
- Learn drafting standards
- Oversee elementary project specific activities of project team
- Mark up drawings for the drafting department
- Learn and apply calculations required for the completion of a substation. (battery sizing, AC panel sizing, etc.)
- Learn and properly use task specific software
- Learn and properly use the document management system
- Learn and apply corporate standard engineering practices
- Take personal responsibility for the quality and accuracy of his/her work
- Bring potential problems to the attention of the responsible party
- Travel out of town for short periods of time as required by projects and assignments
- Other duties as required
Minimum Qualifications / Experience
A Bachelor Of Electrical Engineering Technology, or a similar or equivalent four-year degree is preferred.
Skills:
- Experience using MS Office programs. Word and Excel programs are commonly used. Microsoft Project is used for scheduling and planning functions.
- Good Math Skills, particularly in Algebra, Geometry, and Trigonometry.
- Experience or familiarity with CAD design. AutoCad, and Microstation are used.
- Basic knowledge of electrical and/or civil design processes.
- Basic knowledge of civil/structural codes.
- Basic knowledge of statics and mechanics.
- Good organizational skills which include development of work plans, preparing and maintaining schedules, tracking progress, and preparing status reports.
- Flexibility to work on an individual project as well as on team projects.
- Good communication skills, both oral and written.
- Experience or familiarity with current surveying techniques and practices.
- This position requires minimal physical effort.
- Must be able to endure prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer for a minimum of 8 hours a day
- While performing the duties of this job, the employee will primarily work indoors, with occasional outdoor exposure to year around weather conditions and noise.
- Must be able and willing to travel overnight for trainings and/or meetings as required (10%)
- Working extended hours, including weekends, may be required periodically.
- May occasionally lift up to 25 pounds at a time.
