- Ahlstrom is looking for a flexible maintenance team member to join our dynamic maintenance crew. We are now hiring a skilled maintenance mechanic team member for either 2nd or 3rd shift depending upon your availability.
GENERAL DUTIES:
The Mechanic I position is a position within the Maintenance Department. The individual must pass a maintenance/mechanical skill test to qualify for a two-year probationary period, during which the employee will be supervised and graded. The employee must undergo the required training and testing to progress to the Mechanic II level and must successfully pass testing every two years thereafter. See Page 3 for detailed descriptions of Mechanic I and Mechanic II requirements.
Due to the employee's inability to perform the job because of skills/testing, the contract language under Section VI, Item C regarding Disciplinary Transfer may apply. As stated in the Collective Bargaining Agreement, "Transfers to the Service Team in lieu of termination will be considered by the Company based on job availability, seniority and capability to perform all job requirements."

Emergency Work: Must be willing and able to respond to call-backs to the plant at any time, i.e. weekends, nights, holidays. Must be able to respond to emergency calls and return to the plant within 30 minutes. The Mechanic I must utilize a pager or cell phone to facilitate response to call-ins. This responsibility is shared among three mechanics.
The use of a respirator is required to perform the functions of this job. The successful bidder must pass the physical and complete the needed training. The successful bidder must also agree to be clean-shaven: beards are not allowed in any form. Mustaches and other facial hair will be allowed as long as they do not interfere with the seal of the respirator.
QUALIFICATIONS:
a. Sufficient physical stature to ensure proper handling of job, including working from ladders and scaffolds.
b. Must know ISO procedures relating to job and follow said procedures.
c. Must undergo training leading up to qualification as Mechanic II. Job qualification to be determined by administration of testing by a union/management Team.
d. Must be willing to take additional training to upgrade knowledge of current technology when determined by Company.
e. Ability to read blueprints and schematics
f. Ability to perform basic math including unit conversions.
g. Ability to work safely
h. Ability to troubleshoot equipment issues effectively and efficiently
i. Possess a basic understanding of hydraulic, pneumatic, piping steam and power transmission systems.
j. Ability to arc and mig weld carbon steel.
k. Ability to safely apply rigging skills to move equipment
l. Ability to install basic equipment such as pumps.
m. Ability to operate power tools
n. Ability to operate the maintenance shop equipment such as drills, saws, sanders, etc.
o. Must be qualified to operate forklift truck properly and safely.

Performs soldering, brazing, welding, acetylene cutting and plasma cutting, basic equipment rebuilds, basic carpentry, precision measuring, basic piping, equipment moves, and rigging.

Reads and understands blueprints and schematics.
Consistently troubleshoots equipment failures and identifies the root cause of the failures.
Understands and performs maintenance and project work on all plant facilities and equipment.
Trains others as needed.
Maintains the Fire Prevention System.
