Job Summary

The Plant Project Engineer is responsible for project planning, workflow, budget allocation, and scheduling of electrical, instrumentation, and piping projects. The position is also provides engineering and technical support for maintenance and operations during troubleshooting in order to minimize the downtime

Summary of Essential Job Functions

  • Responsible for capital or maintenance projects in piping, electrical and instrumentation fields to satisfy critical objectives such as budget, schedule, deliverables and safety
  • Design and implement new Electrical, Instrumentation and piping systems to enhance efficiency and performance, and update related documents and drawings
  • Procure electrical equipment and instruments necessary for the E&I projects
  • Prepare bidding documents such as specification, drawings, bill of materials, deliverables and work scope for contractors
  • Manage, assist and liaise on-site contractors during construction phase, and provide progress reports as necessary
  • Cooperate with members from other functions of the projects to minimize conflicts
  • Prepare punch lists to ensure contractors rectify to meet all deliverables
  • Provide field support and participate in commissioning and start up of new projects, and log all necessary data
  • Collaborates to create a strategic action plan and cost estimates of materials, time, labor, and other resources required to complete projects
  • Recommends and/or analyzes materials, equipment, and practices used in projects
  • Facilitates and contributes to the development of project plans and designs.
  • Recommends and/or analyzes materials, equipment, and practices used in the project.
  • Assesses the competence, capabilities, resources, and financial status of vendors.
  • Supervises progress of development project.
  • Compares the actual cost of development project to estimates.
  • Collaborates with design group to change plans if problems arise.
  • Analyzes Electrical and Instrumentation equipment, processes, and systems to identify modifications to improve efficiency, increase quality, and reduce costs, and assists in troubleshooting equipment breakdowns
  • Prepares periodic progress and cost reports for leadership.
  • Ensures compliance with codes, guidelines, best practices, and policies.
  • Collaborates with the operations department to identify and troubleshoot problems
  • Provide estimates for new projects with electrical and/or instrumentation field
  • Submit necessary proposals according to the company’s guidelines
  • Practice company’s fair bidding policies and other internal practices
  • Performs other duties as assigned

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities

  • Understanding of Power Distribution including but not limited to 3/Phase, 1/Phase 13,200VAC, 4,160VAC, 600VAC, 480VAC, 277VAC, 240VAC, 208VAC, 120VAC
  • Understanding of electrical systems, equipment, devices, conduits, cables, tubing, etc.
  • Understanding of Automation Controls, Analogue I/O, Digital I/O
  • Understanding of process control and instrumentation equipment including, but not limited to, Thermocouples, RTDs, Pressure, Level, Flow, Weigh, Temperature, pH, DO, NH3 Transducers, DC drives, AC drives, VFDs
  • Understanding P&ID Schematics and Isometric Drawings
  • Advanced knowledge of machines and tools, their designs, uses, repair and maintenance
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Excellent budgeting and cost containment skills
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Excellent time management skills with a proven ability to meet deadlines
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software, SAP
  • Basic understanding of ISO 9000 design requirements.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks and to delegate them when appropriate

Physical Demands & Work Environment

  • Work Schedule: Monday through Friday, 8:00am-5:00pm;
  • Exposure to a manufacturing environment such as moving parts and machinery, high noise levels, vibrations, varying atmospheric conditions, temperatures, chemicals, high pressure steam and dust
  • Prolonged periods sitting at a desk working on a computer
  • This position does not supervise the work of others
  • Frequently walks extended distances, ascends/descends stairs and ladders;
  • Minimal travel is expected for this position;
  • Ability to work in confined spaces as necessary;
  • Ability to work at heights as necessary;
  • Ability to lift up 50 pounds as necessary

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering or a similar field
