Job Summary
Incumbents provide direction and supervision to the maintenance and construction of physical facility at the MCC-Penn Valley Campus which include custodial, grounds keeping, maintenance, re-modeling and construction, and coordinate maintenance and construction projects. This position is responsible for monitoring contracted services of the college.
Essential Functions
Supervise maintenance, construction, and/or other staff in multiple geographically separated facilities to include prioritizing and assigning work; conducting performance evaluations; coordinating staff training; and implementing hiring, discipline, and termination procedures
Oversee and/or perform maintenance and construction operations in assigned physical facilities in accordance with established energy conservation guidelines; work may involve coordinating facility schedules and ensuring that safety procedures are followed
Coordinate all operations related to construction, remodeling, and facility maintenance projects across multiple geographic locations; work may involve managing project budgets, scope, and schedules; reviewing project plans; coordinating with internal and external staff, departments, and agencies to facilitate project operations; and ensuring that operations are performed in accordance with laws, policies, procedures, and project plans
Track and prioritize work orders; work may also involve responding to emergency calls after work hours, and prioritizing maintenance needs, and scheduling staff, as needed
Maintain equipment inventory; work may involve assessing maintenance needs based on project plans, and regularly ordering materials and supplies
Monitor an assigned budget, to include monitoring expenditures, assessing project needs, preparing project cost estimates and purchase requisitions
Prepare, maintain, and/or review construction contracts, maps, work orders, reports, records, and other documentation to ensure timely and accurate documentation, and compliance with applicable laws, policies, and procedures
Maintain an organization capable of emergency, preventive, and corrective work on a wide variety of structures and systems, including responding to or delegating emergency calls after hours, and responding to emergency weather conditions such as snow and ice by assembling available personnel and supervising removal operations
Work with Campus administration including the President, Vice President, Deans, and Director of Campus Operations to ensure that critical campus Facilities related needs are prioritized and met
Collaborate with MCC's Chief Facilities Officer, Director of Facilities Operations, Project Managers, and other district Facilities Staff to plan and direct the current and future facility operations and projects
In coordination with appropriate district staff or contractors, maintain grounds, landscaping and walkways, parking lots, roadways and all other locations on the campus grounds
Performs other duties of a similar nature or level
Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Physical Requirements
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree
Eight (8) years of custodial, grounds or maintenance related experience
Valid Driver's License
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Knowledge of managerial principles and budgeting principles
Knowledge of facilities maintenance systems
Knowledge of procedure and goal development principles
Knowledge of applicable codes, standards, and regulations
Knowledge of construction trades
Knowledge of safety procedures
Knowledge of record and report preparation techniques
Skilled in monitoring and evaluating employees; delegating and prioritizing work
Skilled in managing construction trades
Skilled in developing goals and procedures
Skilled in preparing records and reports; and monitoring budgets
Skilled in ensuring compliance with applicable codes, standards, and regulations
Skilled in inspecting facilities, equipment and other structures
Skilled in utilizing communication and interpersonal skills as applied to interaction with coworkers, supervisor, the general public, and others sufficient to exchange or convey information.
Physical Requirements
Positions in this class typically require climbing, crawling, crouching, keyboarding, grasping, hearing, pulling, pushing, reaching, repetitive motion, standing, talking, visual acuity, and walking. The work is very heavy work which requires exerting in excess of 100 pounds of force occasionally and/or in excess of 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
Incumbents may be exposed to hazardous physical conditions, such as mechanical parts, electrical currents, and vibrations; atmospheric conditions, such as fumes, odors, gases, and poor ventilation.Supplemental Information
