Would you like to have a career with a collaborative, diverse, and dynamic mining company? We have an exciting opportunity for you! We are looking for a Corrosion Protection Supervisor to specialize in corrosion detection and protection.
We are seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Corrosion Protection Supervisor to join our site-based Asset Integrity team. This role is responsible for ensuring the quality control and / or assurance, compliance, and performance of protective coating systems applied to critical infrastructure including tanks, structural steel, conveyors, and piping. The successful candidate will conduct inspections, perform non-destructive testing, and coordinate coating activities to support long-term asset reliability, corrosion management and adherence to industry standards and site safety policies.
Responsibilities
- Analyze the condition of the structural components of buildings and other structures through field visit inspections and 3rd party structural reports. From the analyze schedule remediation work (steel replacement, concrete repairs and coating) prioritizing the work based on safety, production and area/equipment availability.
- Manage remediation project schedules, cost, quality control and document control, and develop appropriate reporting of progress to plant leadership.
- Conduct non-destructive testing (NDT) on critical assets, including ultrasonic thickness measurements to assess material integrity and corrosion damage.
- Prepare executive reports for management with key performance indicators (KPIs) evaluating the areas that have been remediated.
- Contribute on a quarterly basis with proposals for structural improvement initiatives in the preparation of the annual budget and projects, with the aim of incorporating into the budget items corresponding to structure and concrete, improvement/projects and others.
- Perform corrosion rate analysis using test coupons.
- Verify the use of personal protective equipment (PPE) by internal staff and contractors.
Coating QA/QC Responsibilities
- Coordinate and schedule coating work across the NGM sites in collaboration with the maintenance, operations, and contractor teams to minimize operational impact and maximize efficiency.
- Perform quality inspections on surface preparation, coating application, and curing processes as per specification and standards (e.g., NACE, SSPC, ISO).
- Supervise the activities of contractors and ensure the application of coatings follows the specific standards (e.g., SSPC, ISO)
- Ensure surface cleaning and coating application activities comply with the NGM coating standard (e.g., NACE, SSPC, ISO).
- Complete and maintain accurate documentation including inspection reports, test records, and photographic evidence.
- Validate inspection results and sign final reports prior to delivery.
- Liaise with internal stakeholders and external contractors to communicate QA/QC requirements and resolve quality-related issues.
- Promote continuous improvement initiatives in QA/QC processes and participate in audits as required.
- Ensure all coating and inspection activities are conducted in accordance with site safety and environmental policies.
Qualifications
- AMPP Certified Coating Inspector Certification (level 2) or Senior certified coatings inspector certification (Level 3) or equivalent (FROSIO) - Required.
- Certification or proven competency in ultrasonic testing (UT) or other NDT methods - Preferred.
- Bachelors of Engineering, Civil/Structural or Mechanical - Preferred
- A minimum of 3-5 years experience in coating inspection within a mining, industrial, or heavy infrastructure environment - Preferred.
- Solid knowledge of surface preparation techniques, protective coating systems, and QA/QC inspection tools and methods - Required
- Project Management knowledge and experience in project scheduling, planning, or coordination of maintenance or coating programs - Preferred
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and familiarity with QA/QC reporting systems or digital inspection tools - Required
- Knowledge of asset integrity and NACE Corrosion Engineering - Preferred
- Familiarity with Process Safety Management programs and practices - Preferred
- Strong interpersonal, organizational, and written communication skills - Required
- Demonstrated ability to perform the essential functions of this job - Required
- Experience working within mining, oil & gas, or industrial operations - Preferred
- Understanding of asset integrity and corrosion management programs - Preferred
- Be able to inspect erected scaffolding - Preferred
Work Environment
- Site-based position with travel to the various NGM sites.
- Work performed in outdoor, industrial, and occasionally hazardous environments.
- Compliance with PPE, safety, and environmental procedures is mandatory.
