The Maryland National Capital Park & Planning Commission is an award winning organization with over 5,000 employees that administers over 52,000 acres of stream valley parks, large regional parks, neighborhood parks and park-school recreation areas throughout Montgomery and Prince Georges counties. In Prince Georges County, we are also responsible for developing the Countys public recreation programs.

Subsequently, the Department of Parks & Recreation has the overall responsibility for planning, supervising and coordinating all park/recreation facilities and services throughout Prince Georges County. The Facility Services Division (FSD) is the largest Division within this Department and is composed of six major work areas: Fleet Management, Buildings & Structures (Trade Shops), Horticulture & Forestry, Major Maintenance & Inspection, Critical Projects (Heavy Equipment/Trails/Roads and Grounds, Aquatics, Sustainability and the Administrative section. The mission of FSD is to provide professional, high quality maintenance and maintenance support services for all parks and recreation facilities and to support the diverse work programs of the Parks & Recreation Department in Prince Georges County and its customers. Examples of Important Duties

The Electrical unit falls under the operational supervision of the Building & Structures Section, which provides preventive maintenance, routine/emergency repair, renovations and alterations to over 431 park buildings and structures. The Electrical units mission is to be responsible for maintaining electrical systems and equipment in all facilities (i.e. buildings, stadiums, ice rinks, farms, etc.) and large units throughout the Prince Georges County parks system. Our lighting systems can be as basic as lighting a flag pole to the highly complex lighting of the Prince Georges Sports & Learning Center.

The Electrician III is responsible for leading, coordination and monitoring the technical and day-to-day projects to a team of nine (9) professional electricians. Assisting the Shop Supervisor with a full range of skilled electrical work of the highest complexity and variety; providing logistical resources and project assignments to the teams; and in the absence of the Trade Shop Supervisor, interact with senior management, external stakeholders (such as utility company representatives, the County Permits & Inspection Office) and other team members (trades professionals i.e. Electrical, HVAC, Carpentry), as needed to coordinate program activities.

Reporting directly to the Electrical Trade Shop Supervisor, manage and participate in construction projects (new installs and renovations/additions), conduct electrical assessments of wiring systems, add/change lights or lighting systems, and re-arrange power systems, provide electrical support to events (i.e. festivals, displays, County fairs, concerts, etc.), implement the County-wide emergency generator inspection and maintenance program, implement a hi-voltage system inspection and maintenance program and provide preventive maintenance of our electrical systems within our major venues such as indoor swimming pools and ice skating rinks.

As Team Lead, the incumbent must be able to effectively assist the Supervisor with employee relations issues and learn the appropriate Commission personnel guidelines to effectively administer human resources policy, as needed. Additionally, the incumbent will be responsible for: training and instructing staff on new regulations and equipment issues; coordinating preventative maintenance and inspection of electrical systems of buildings, structures to detect problems and code violations and ensure code compliance with local and national codes.

The ability tocommunicate effectively with senior managers, customers, engineers, external agency/corporate representatives and staff is a must, along with the ability to train and instruct electrician team members, as needed. Excellent supervisory skills are also required. Flexibility and the willingness to change gears is a must. This position requires an Electrician with experience in residential, commercial (office buildings/recreation centers) and industrial (indoor swimming pools, skating rinks, ball fields, etc.) electrical systems . The incumbent will also be knowledgeable regarding construction issues and have an excellent ability to effectively troubleshoot problems as they arise. *Must be willing to take On-Call Emergency Calls (off hours), as part of the Emergency Electric Response Program team.*

Salary Range ($56,358 - $99,814)

On-call 24 hrs. (Emergency Responses Only)

(Work Hours are 6:00 2:45 pm) Minimum Qualifications
  1. High School diploma or Certificate of General Educational Development (GED).
  2. Completion of an approved apprentice program in electrical work; or four (4) years of progressively responsible electrical experience.
  3. Four (4) years of experience at the journey level including two (2) years of experience directing the activities of other skilled electricians.
  4. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be substituted, which together total eight (8) years.
  5. Master's Electrician's license issued by appropriate local jurisdiction.
  6. Valid driver's license in accordance with both State and Commission rules and regulations. Driver's license must be unencumbered by restrictions, revocations, suspensions, or points that could limit the employee's ability to drive Commission vehicles or perform driving duties required by the position of assignment.
  7. Valid Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with appropriate endorsements may be required.
  8. Pass Commission medical examination.
