Power BI Architect

Job Details Power BI Architect Location: Waukegan IL Duration: Through February 2026 Role is hybrid onsite 3 days per week in Mettawa IL. Role: NOT looking for a Senior Power BI Developer; they need true hands-on experience at the data-layer to design and set up Power BI data models as a Power BI Architect. Wants to see this person have experience design complex dashboards and use data-modeling to interact with dashboards on an architectural level. 50% new development work. Relatively small onsite team: 2 AbbVie team members, a contract Scrum Master, and 6 offshore developers. Main source of data is Snowflake; some comes from AWS and there are some APIs set up with external vendors. Required: Power Automate & Power Apps are required. Must have experience with data modeling and architecture. Must have a Bachelor's degree. Must have 5+ years of experience with Power BI (the more experience as a Power BI Architect, the better). Must have strong SQL & Python experience. Preferred: Jupyter Notebooks experience is nice to have. Any PowerBI certifications are nice to have. Pharmaceutical industry (or highly regulated environment) experience and/or patient services experience is nice to have. Duration: Likely to extend beyond initial contract duration. Interview Process: 2 rounds of interviews. Top 3 5 Skills: Experience with design and architecture Experience with data modelling Experience with Performance Optimization Qualifications: Bachelor s degree in computer science, Information Systems, or a related field. Proven experience as a BI Architect or similar role, with 5-7 years experience in Power BI. Strong expertise in full Microsoft BI Suite, data modeling, DAX, and Power Query. Experience with SQL, Python, Jupyter Notebooks, and integrating Power BI with various data sources. Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills. Ability to lead projects and work collaboratively in a team environment. Preferred Qualifications: Experience with Azure data services and cloud technologies. Security: Ensure data security and compliance with organizational policies and industry standards. Strategy and Planning: Advise on BI strategy and roadmaps, aligning business needs with technology advancements. Training and Support: Provide training and support to end-users and junior team members, promoting effective use of Power BI tools. Documentation: Maintain comprehensive documentation of architectural designs, configurations, and project specifications.
