The Facilities Division of Public Works is seeking a highly capable and experienced individual to join our team as a Construction Superintendent. This position plays a key role in managing complex capital improvement and operational projects across a portfolio of city-owned facilities totaling over 1 million square feet.

As a Construction Superintendent, you will provide leadership and technical expertise throughout all project phasesplanning, budgeting, procurement, execution, and closeout. This includes developing scopes of work, supervising staff and contractors, ensuring policy compliance, and supporting strategic planning initiatives. You will coordinate with departments, vendors, architects, and engineers to deliver high-quality results that meet City standards and community expectations.

This position reports to the Facilities Manager and directly supervises professional and para-professional staff. Candidates with strong project management backgrounds, especially in the public sector or municipal environments, are encouraged to apply.

The ideal candidate for this position will have:

  • A proactive leadership style and ability to manage multiple priorities
  • Experience managing vertical construction and renovation projects
  • Knowledge of building systems, municipal procurement, and capital planning
  • Excellent communication skills with both internal and external stakeholders
  • Proficiency in project budgeting, scheduling, and reporting software (e.g., CMMS, Excel, GIS, and SmartSheet systems)
  • A customer-service mindset, ensuring minimal disruption to building occupants

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

Education:

  • Bachelor's degree in any field or equivalent

Experience:

  • Seven or more years of related experience, including advanced knowledge in capital project delivery, building systems, or construction management.

Physical Demands:

  • Work may require occasional site visits, including walking on construction sites, climbing ladders, and navigating uneven terrain. May require lifting up to 20 pounds.

Licenses and Certifications:

  • Valid AZ Drivers License upon hire
  • Registered Professional Engineer (desired but not required)
  • Limited Police Department Background Check

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Previous supervisory experience
  • Experience in a municipal or government setting
  • Bachelors degree in Engineering or Construction Management
