POSITION TITLE: HVAC Refrigerator Mechanic II
DEPARTMENT: Administration and Finance-Facilities
PRIMARY LOCATION: Fall River, MA
REPORTS TO: Associate VP Admin/Facilities
CLASSIFICATION SPECIFICATION:
POSITION STATUS: This is a full-time, state-funded, AFSCME Unit 2, Grade 17, Step 1, unit-classified position with benefits.
SALARY: $60,119.28 annually.*
STATEMENT OF DUTIES: Maintain, install and clean various types of heating, ventilating, air conditioning and refrigeration equipment and systems.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Lead and provide directions to skilled or unskilled workers and maintenance workers.
Supervise and coordinate the maintenance, repair, and upgrades of equipment associated with HVAC for buildings on Bristol Community College Campuses.
Coordinate activities in conjunction with and in the absence of the immediate supervisor.
Install, maintain, troubleshoot and repair a wide variety of HVAC and refrigeration equipment in a timely and cost efficient manner.
Perform Preventative Maintenance (PM) on HVAC equipment.
Maintain, rebuild and repair defective parts such as switches, fuses, thermostats and electrical wiring.
Manage projects and work load assignments as required.
Prepare equipment and plans for HVAC maintenance repairs and maintenance.
Report needed equipment and supplies in order to maintain proper amounts of inventory to perform jobs in a timely manner.
Assist with other trades work when necessary.
Coordinate the activities of subcontract personnel to maintain continued and efficient operation of all building heating, cooling and ventilation systems.
Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor
Requirements:
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Applicants must have at least two years of full-time, or equivalent part- time technical experience in the installation, maintenance and repair of heating, refrigeration, ventilating and air conditioning systems, or (B) any equivalent combination of the required experience and the substitutions below.
High School education.
Must hold an active Massachusetts Refrigeration Technician License or Massachusetts Sheet Metal License.
Ability to supervise, including planning and assigning work.
General knowledge of the National Electric Code, Life Safety Code, OSHA and standard safety practices.
Must be familiar with electronic, pneumatic, and digital control systems.
Basic computer knowledge and skills in Microsoft Office products, and Computer Maintenance Management System (CMMS) such as CAMIS, School Dude, or other.
Must have current, valid Massachusetts Driver's License.
Reading, writing and comprehension of the English language, and the ability to compute addition, subtraction, multiplication and division functions using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals.
Ability to maintain positive courteous communication between departments, co-workers, students, faculty, and staff.
Ability to be on-call, and work overtime, off-shifts, weekends, and holidays.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
A minimum of three (3) years of experience in the installation, operation, maintenance, calibration and repair of HVAC and refrigeration systems in commercial and/or industrial setting, or post high school vocational training in HVAC repair and maintenance.
Trade or vocational school above the High School level.
Ability to read blueprints and HVAC diagrams.
Two (2) years supervisory experience.
Direct Digital Controls operations and maintenance experience.
Universal EPA Refrigerant Handler's Certification.
OSHA 10 hour certification.
Journeyman Gas Fitter's license.
Journeyman Oil Burner license. Mature, adaptable, and have the ability to work pleasantly and tactfully with his/her fellow employees, faculty, students and staff. Complete jobs using the right knowledge and materials in a safe and timely manner. Develop new and creative ways of keeping campus well maintained.
