Description
The City of Jefferson is currently accepting applications for a Construction Inspector for our Engineering Division. This position inspects public works construction projects and private construction and development projects; responsible for all sanitary sewer inspections, and street and storm water work; and insures conformance with plans and specifications through observation, testing, and inspection for final City approval.
Examples of Duties
Inspects public works projects, sanitary sewer, street and storm water projects, and projects constructed by developers for acceptance by the City; keeps daily construction notes and photos; calculates quantities; writes progress reports; and conducts testing to assure compliance with construction plans and engineering specifications.
Monitors compliance with the City's MS4 permit and a project's Stormwater Pollution Prevention Plan.
Informs property owners, contractors, developers and City departments of proper safety procedures and monitors proper placement of signs and barricades protecting the safety and interests of the public during construction.
Updates project drawings, notes, changes, and deviations from the original construction plans; updates files; and assures built project deviations are properly noted and archives are accurately maintained and updated.
Reviews Capitol Improvement Plans (CIP) for constructability issues, writes and maintains minutes of construction progress meetings, and prints and copies project plans.
Typical Qualifications
Physical: Ability to drive a truck for extended periods; traverse rough terrain; enter/exit ditches and manholes; operate hand tools; surveying equipment; operate computers, plotters, printers, and scanners.
Mental: Ability to calculate quantities and prepare pay estimates; read and interpret engineering plans and sketches; keep accurate records; establish and maintain effective working relationships; and effectively communicate both orally and in writing with contractors, co-workers, and the general public.
Supplemental Information
Requires an associate's degree in Civil Engineering Technology or similar field and two years' experience in work related to construction inspection or an equivalent combination of education and experience providing a thorough knowledge of the methods, principals, practices, and terminology of surveying and construction inspection. MoDOT certifications in materials testing is a plus.
Must have a thorough knowledge of the basic principles of civil engineering; and a valid Missouri Driver's License.
