Position Summary

The Facilities Management Supervisor provides leadership, coordination, and oversight for facility operations across multiple Wisconsin Historical Society (WHS) historic sites. This position directly supervises facilities and maintenance staff at Pendarvis, Villa Louis, Stonefield, First Capitol, Old World Wisconsin, Wade House, Circus World Museum, and Al. Ringling Theater.

This role ensures high-quality site operations aligned with agency-wide facilities goals, while remaining responsive to each site's unique operational needs and visitor priorities.

Duties include providing day-to-day direction, coaching, and performance evaluation to facilities staff; setting work priorities and ensuring adherence to safety and operational standard; conducting routine site visits and inspections of buildings, equipment and grounds for deficiencies and to monitor work quality to address emerging issues; developing and managing preventive maintenance schedules, standard operating procedures, seasonal upkeep, and routine inspections.

This position will be headquartered at Old World Wisconsin (Eagle, WI) or Circus World Museum (Baraboo, WI). Frequent travel throughout the state to the historic sites will be required.

Salary Information

Starting hourly wage is between $35.00-$41.00 per hour, depending on qualifications, plus excellent benefits. This position is in pay schedule and range 81-03, and the classification is Buildings and Grounds Superintendent. A 12-month probationary period will be required.

Special Requirements:

  • Valid driver's license and ability to drive a state-owned vehicle.
  • Ability to travel and work at historic sites throughout the state.
  • Ability to occasionally lift, carry, or move equipment and supplies weighing up to 50 pounds (e.g., tools, ladders, maintenance materials) in support of emergency tasks or inspections.

Qualifications

Please make sure to describe the following qualifications within your resume and/or letter of qualifications in order to be considered for this position.

Minimally qualified candidates will have experience in all of the following:

  • Experience supervising or serving as a Team Lead in facilities maintenance, custodial services, or building operations type programs.
  • Experience developing and implementing maintenance schedules, performing or delegating routine maintenance tasks, and conducting site inspections.
  • Basic knowledge of building systems such as HVAC, electrical, plumbing, and custodial operations.
  • Familiarity with safety and regulatory compliance standards, such as OSHA and ADA, within a facilities context.
  • Experience coordinating with vendors or contractors for services or repairs.

In addition to minimum qualifications, a well-qualified candidate will additionally have demonstrated experience in two of the following areas:

  • Supervisory experience across multiple facilities or campuses, ideally within a cultural institution, historic site, park system, university, or other public-facing entity.
  • Experience managing complex maintenance operations and schedules, including preventive, seasonal, and emergency maintenance planning across a diverse set of structures or environments.
  • Experience with oversight of facility-related capital projects (e.g., major renovations or infrastructure upgrades).
  • Familiarity with facility preservation and regulatory requirements for historic or aging structures, including knowledge of applicable codes (e.g., OSHA, ADA, environmental, historic preservation).
  • Proven ability to lead regionally dispersed teams, balancing local needs with organizational goals and maintaining strong collaborative relationships with on-site managers or directors.
