PURPOSE: The position of Equipment Operator performs duties in the operation and maintenance of streets and related infrastructure. This position performs customer service, semi-skilled and manual labor. The incumbent is responsible for all snow plowing operations and must be available for all snow plowing operations and call-ins.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Equipment Operator I:
SALARY RANGE: Equipment Operator II Pay Range 123 is $32.76 - $37.46
Equipment Operator I Pay Range 121 is $30.28 - $34.62
Equipment Operator-In-Training: Pay Range 115 is $23.93-$27.38
(Appointments are usually made at the beginning of the range).
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Performs snow plowing and ice control.
- Performs street maintenance functions including: crack sealing, road patching, culvert replacement, tree removal and filling potholes.
- Performs mowing and turf maintenance including: roadsides, parkways, and boulevards.
- Performs storm sewer and ditch maintenance.
- Performs work on mason crew, laying brick, building catch basins and performing other related mason work, including heavy lifting.
- Performs tree trimming and removal. Ability to trim, prune, and remove trees, including stump removal. Assists with brush control and debris removal from easements and waterways.
- Operates various pieces of motorized equipment, trucks, and tools related to assigned duties including: dump trucks, backhoes, end loaders, brush chippers, street sweepers and other heavy equipment.
- Ability to be available in adverse weather conditions for emergency maintenance of streets and City right-of-ways.
- Assists with the operation of the City's Recycling Center.
- Performs street light and sign maintenance including: installation and repairs of street signs, guardrails and all areas of maintenance relating to roadways and City owned properties.
- Performs preventative maintenance on division equipment. Ability to make minor equipment repairs and assist with major equipment repair work, as assigned.
- Ability to work in an aerial bucket at heights up of to 50 feet.
Equipment Operator II:
- At least 6 years experience operating approximately 75% of the Citys heavy equipment, motorized equipment, trucks and tools including: a minimum 26,000 lb. GVW truck with plow and wing, articulated end loader, skid steer, backhoe and street maintenance equipment.
- Capable of skillfully operating 8 out of 10 of pieces of equipment without direction or supervision to include front end loader; JCB loader/backhoe; Liebherr backhoe; patrol trucks/plows; pavement roller; skid steer; sweepers; Vermeer horizontal grinder; Finn sprayer and/ branch chipper.
- Knowledge equivalent to a high school diploma.
- Valid CDL endorsement (Classes A,B,C)
- Ability to perform manual labor (bend, stoop, handle equipment, lift a minimum of 100 pounds); work from a height of at least 50 feet; withstand a variety of temperatures, weather and work conditions; and possess short/long distance vision.
- Ability to work overnight, weekends and holidays, including emergency call ins.
Equipment Operator I:
- At least 3 years experience operating approximately 50% of the Citys heavy equipment, motorized equipment, trucks and tools including: a 26,000 lb. GVW truck with plow and wing, articulated end loader, skid steer, and backhoe.
- Capable of skillfully operating 4 out of 10 of pieces of equipment without direction or supervision to include front end loader; JCB loader/backhoe; Liebherr backhoe; patrol trucks/plows; pavement roller; skid steer; sweepers; Vermeer horizontal grinder; Finn sprayer and/ branch chipper.
- Knowledge equivalent to a high school diploma.
- Valid CDL endorsement (Classes A,B,C)
- Ability to perform manual labor (bend, stoop, handle equipment, lift a minimum of 100 pounds); work from a height of at least 50 feet; withstand a variety of temperatures, weather and work conditions; and possess short/long distance vision.
- Ability to work overnight, weekends and holidays, including emergency call ins.
Equipment Operator-In-Training:
- Knowledge equivalent to a high school diploma.
- Commercial Driver's License (CDL) endorsement (Classes B, C).
- Knowledge and ability to proficiently operate approximately 25% of the Citys heavy equipment, motorized equipment, trucks and tools including: a 26,000 lb. GVW truck with plow and wing, articulated end loader and skid steer.
- Ability to perform manual labor (bend, stoop, handle equipment, lift a minimum of 100 pounds); work from a height of at least 50 feet; withstand a variety of temperatures, weather and work conditions; and possess short/long distance vision.
- Ability to work overnight, weekends and holidays, including emergency call ins. Equivalent combinations of training and experience may be considered.
