We are looking for a proactive Civil Engineer or Landscape Architect who is passionate about shaping inclusive, connected spaces. This role is ideal for someone with expertise in site design and project management, from planning and community engagement through construction. You will lead projects that enhance Raleighs greenways, parks, and public infrastructure while collaborating with city staff, design teams, and the community.   • Manage complex capital projects in alignment with the City's Capital Improvement Program
  • Oversee project planning, design, and construction, ensuring compliance with permits and regulations
  • Administer project budgets, contracts, and vendor coordination
  • Represent the City in committees, boards, and community engagement efforts
  • Develop and manage outreach materials, public engagement strategies, and project communications
  • Conduct research, prepare site plans, bid documents, and oversee construction administration

Education and Experience:
Bachelor's degree in engineering or directly related field.

OR

An equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above, unless otherwise subject to any other requirements set forth in law or regulation.

Licensing and Certifications:

  • Valid North Carolina Class C Driver's License, or the ability to obtain within 60 days of hire

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Work experience in civil engineering, transportation engineering, landscape architecture, construction management, or related field.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) or Professional Landscape Architect (PLA) license

Knowledge of:

  • Civil engineering principles, including planning, design, construction, of transportation and site development projects
  • Federal, state, and local laws, codes, and regulations related to project compliance
  • Project management best practices, including budgeting, scheduling, and contractor oversight
  • Research methods for analyzing industry trends, emerging technologies, and best practices
Skill in:
  • Microsoft Office Suite, SharePoint, AutoCAD, ArcGIS, and other design/analysis tools
  • Verbal and written communication skills to convey complex information clearly
  • Organization, prioritization, and task management for multiple projects
  • Facilitating public engagement and stakeholder collaboration

ADA and Other Requirements: Positions in this class typically require: stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, fingering, grasping, talking, hearing, seeing and repetitive motions. Medium Work: Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects. Working Conditions: Work is performed in both the field and in an indoor office environment with frequent exposure to hazardous physical conditions (such as mechanical parts, electrical currents, vibration, etc.); frequent exposure to atmospheric conditions (such as fumes, odors, dusts, gases, poor ventilation, etc.); moderate exposure to hazardous materials (such as chemicals, blood and other body fluids); frequent exposure to environmental conditions (such as disruptive people, imminent danger, or a threatening environment); frequent exposure to extreme temperatures, inadequate lighting and movement restrictions; and moderate exposure intense noise or travel.
