Kforce has a client that is seeking a Lead Project Engineer in North Haven, CT.
Responsibilities:
- Project Leadership: Lead the design and development of roadway and highway projects, from preliminary studies through final design and construction support
- Technical Oversight: Provide advanced technical expertise in horizontal and vertical roadway alignments, pavement design, grading, drainage, traffic control, and utility coordination
- Client Engagement: Serve as a primary point of contact for clients, managing expectations, building relationships, and ensuring satisfaction across multiple agencies (DOTs, municipalities, etc.)
- Project Management: Develop scopes, budgets, and schedules; Lead multidisciplinary teams and manage subconsultants to ensure timely and profitable project delivery
- Quality Assurance: Review and seal plans, specifications, reports, and cost estimates; Ensure adherence to applicable standards (AASHTO, MUTCD, local DOT guidelines)
- Mentorship and Leadership: Provide guidance, training, and performance feedback to junior engineers and designers; Foster a culture of technical excellence and collaboration
- Business Development Support: Assist with proposal development, project pursuits, and client presentations; Help identify new opportunities and expand market presence* Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering; Master's degree preferred
- Licensed Professional Engineer (PE) and the ability to obtain reciprocity
- 20+ years of progressive experience in roadway design and transportation infrastructure
- Proficient in design software such as MicroStation, InRoads/OpenRoads, AutoCAD Civil 3D, and related tools
- Strong understanding of DOT design standards, permitting processes, and construction practices
- Proven track record of delivering large-scale transportation projects on time and within budget
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Strong leadership, mentorship, and team-building abilities
Preferred:
- Experience working with CTDOT, MASSDOT, NYDOT, RIDOT, VDOT, FDOT, TXDOT
- Familiarity with federal and state transportation funding and documentation requirements
- Prior involvement in Design-Build or alternative delivery methods
- Active participation in professional organizations (ASCE, ITE, ACEC, etc.)
