Summary
The primary purpose of this position is to perform skilled work in the alteration, maintenance, and repair of electrical and related systems in an assigned area.
All activities must support the Minneapolis Public Housing Authoritys (MPHA or Authority) mission, vision, and values.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
The position duties and responsibilities listed below describe the general nature and scope of work. Other responsibilities, duties and skills may be required and assigned, as needed.
- Performs work orders as assigned by a Master Electrician, professionally and in a timely manner.
- Performs maintenance, under the supervision of a Master Electrician, on electrical wiring, apparatus, equipment, or facilities owned or leased by the MPHA.
- Stocks and maintains MPHA vehicles in order to perform work orders with high efficiency.
- Responds to routine or repeated electrical complaints from staff and tenants orally and in writing; responds to calls after hours and in emergency situations.
- Calls in work orders for any patching or repairs that may be needed as a result of electrical repairs.
- Performs work on underground wiring systems in garages and similar buildings.
- Uses wrenches, meters, pliers, and other standard electrical tools to correct problems with various electrical systems.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.

This position generally works on Authority properties, which may cause the employee to experience a range in temperatures and other weather conditions. The noise level may be loud, and the environment may be more hazardous than a standard office environment. This position may be required to work with contractors as well as Authority residents.
RequirementsEducation and/or Experience
High School Diploma or GED and a minimum of one (1) year of experience in construction or building maintenance, with vocational training focused on electrical. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
Must possess a current State of Minnesota Board of Electricity - Journeyman Electrician License .
Some positions may require possession of a valid drivers license. Those positions may also require use of a personal vehicle and evidence of individual automobile insurance coverage, or the ability to be insurable under the Authoritys automobile insurance plan at the standard rate. Must pass a criminal history background check.
Technical Skills
To perform this job successfully, the employee should have strong computer skills, experience with Yardi or similar software, and MS Word, Excel, and Outlook. Must have the ability to learn other computer software programs as required by assigned tasks.

To perform this job successfully, the employee is frequently required to travel to various Authority properties to perform maintenance work. Daily movements include sitting; standing; reaching and grasping; operating handheld tools and other machinery; moving about the properties; and attending onsite meetings and offsite meetings. The employee must be able to exchange information in person, in writing, and via telephone. The employee must occasionally transport up to 50 pounds.
